Saiming Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 I have discovered that there are a few forums that utilize a function that indicates a poster when he has been quoted. I find this function very very clever since then you do not have to do your daily 'loop' to check all the threads you are discussing. It is also different than the subscribe function since subscribers maybe just want to follow the thread's progress. Just a thought. Quote
Romanticist Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 few forums that utilize a function that indicates a poster when he *OR SHE* has been quoted. Anyway, I second this, sounds like a good idea. If I only had a dollar for every thread I posted in, forgot about, and came back much later to see that whatever I said had several responses ... I'd have like 5 dollars. Quote
Morivou Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 Actually... colloquial English allows the use of one pronoun or the other. It is understood to represent both genders and is the more correct version of "they", which is incorrect because it's plural, as you probably know. On an English PAPER, you are correct, but in every day speech... if we are allowed to use LOL on the forums, then we DEFINITELY can use it for the "he/she" business... damn political correctness. BUT, on topic... I agree. That would be REALLY cool. It would be MUCH easier than reading through pages and pages to see if anybody cared what you said. :whistling: Quote
robinjessome Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 I support the possible implementation of this feature... @ Admins: is this possible? Quote
Gardener Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 Search Forums -> Show Posts -> Search term: "quote=yourname" (including the quotation marks, and "yourname" obviously replaced by your user name). Works for me. (Or you can also just search only for your name, if you don't mind some other posts showing up too.) But sure, I guess this could also be automated by clicking a certain quick link. But I wouldn't make this a top priority personally, unless it's very easy to code. Quote
Saiming Posted August 23, 2009 Author Posted August 23, 2009 Thanks for the tip Gardener. Although my aim was actually to get it automated, if it now is easy to do is a completely different question. I have also realised a small fault in my suggestion. In order for this function to work then people would actually have to start quoting each other - which does not happen even nearly enough on this forum. Quote
