smueske Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 Hey: I've been a member here for a little over a year, but generally only post in this forum and the software/hardware forum (consequently, I don't know where to post this -- I'm posting this here since I know more people on this sub-forum). I got news today that I'll be signing with Artifical Bliss (England and Wales), and I am very excited! Thought I'd share this with you. I know a lot of you don't know who I am yet, but I'll stick around and hope to get to know more of you better. Thanks for letting me celebrate. I've waited my whole life for this and it's finally happening. I just wanted an opportunity, the door to open a crack, and now it has. Thanks! Quote
Gardener Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 Well, the upload forums are certainly not the right place for this, so I moved it to Member Announcements. Off Topic or Composer's Headquarters might fit as well - so if any other mod feels like this is still the wrong place: feel free to move it again :P Anyways: Congratulations! That sounds splendid! SYS65 Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 Congratulations Steve, have a great time .... Quote
smueske Posted September 2, 2009 Author Posted September 2, 2009 Ah, okay, this is more fitting. Thanks, Gardener, for facilitating the move, and Daniel, as always, thanks for your support. You know I'm a fan. Quote
SYS65 Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 a fan of what ? Artifical Bliss (England and Wales) ..... even better for you that contract ... (still I don't know who's "Artifical Bliss" :D) Quote
chopin Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 Congratulations. Can you explain to the rest of us how your music (and what pieces of yours) will be impacted by this deal? And how did you get in touch with these publishers? Were you proactive and did you contact them? I know I have no experience with publishers whatsoever, but it sounds very exciting, and I am very happy for you. Your reality is still my dream. Quote
smueske Posted September 3, 2009 Author Posted September 3, 2009 I met the guy that runs the label on another workshop and sent him a disc when I released my EP last year. He initially said he was interested but I sent a few follow up emails that didn't get answered. Since then, I finished four more songs and am halfway done with the last one (which was planned for a re-release). I decided to follow up with one last email. I explained what my goals were, that I was currently #2 in my genre and that I really wanted to be on his label. Lo and behold today I opened my email and there was a contract attached. If there's one thing I've learned in the last two years, it's that if you want something, ask for it. The worst that can happen is they'll say no. I used to be one of those shy guys who "doesn't want to bother anybody". I still am to some extent but trying to get my name out there has taught me to be a little more thick-skinned and pro-active.
