Voce Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 I've been looking through a bunch of threads, and almost everytime I click on one and listen to the music I'm dissapointed. Give me some suggestions for good pieces by members on here. Quote
YC26 Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 I listened to it AGES ago-- Hymnspaces violin concerto. Go search for it lazypants. Tell me if it is as good as me listening to it years ago. Quote
Jared Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 Max Castillo's "Psalms" for string orchestra was great, in the large ensemble section. Quote
blackballoons Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 Sebastian's "Fundamental Forces of Our Universe" for piano was sick. And of course, calebhugo's brilliant "Concerto for Alto Saxophone and Wind Band". Quote
Morivou Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 Check out the YC AWARDS from 2007 and 2008. They all won for a reason. ;) Quote
Voce Posted September 6, 2009 Author Posted September 6, 2009 Maybe because this is mostly a site for amateurs? Hey thanks, Captain Obvious! :) Please continue to not suggest any pieces. Thank you to to errrbody else. Quote
YC26 Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 Nothing by Nico. He's such an amateur. :) Quote
920bpm Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 Sebastian's "Fundamental Forces of Our Universe" for piano was sick. This, and Hymnspace's The Chamber, String Quartet No. 2, and Detox, and nikolas's My loving Life are my favorites. Quote
matchboxmatt Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 I like Morivou's "i will wade out / hope faith life love" and Steven Tonato's "Pie Jesu". Check those out. Quote
matchboxmatt Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 And Nothing Gold Can Stay by Matt Wetmore (Dev). That's another good one too. Quote
Tokkemon Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 I can't think of any off the top of my head, expect for Max's "Psalm". Quote
Gijs Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 We should have a wall of fame sticky in major works or something. Quote
Morivou Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 I can't possibly imagine any problems with that, our members here are so mature and stable :whistling: Agreed. lol. OH, Off-Topic, is it my turn to run the YC Awards? I think it is. ;) Quote
Gijs Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 I can't possibly imagine any problems with that, our members here are so mature and stable :whistling:  Maybe we should have elections on who should be banned and who can stay. Quote
Ferkungamabooboo Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 No one's mentioned Robin's crazy jazz stuff yet? ComposerOrganist always has cool stuff, too. Quote
robinjessome Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 No one's mentioned Robin's crazy jazz stuff yet? Nope. :sadtears: .... I recommend ANYTHING by Nikolas, for sure. Quote
firsty_ferret Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 robinjessome, flint and simeN are gods. Quote
YC26 Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 This is turning into the bad people you were trying to avoid suggesting people worse than the individuals you could dig up on your own, Voce. Quote
SSC Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 http://www.youngcomposers.com/forum/angst-solo-violin-12272.html This. By far. Quote
composerorganist Posted September 9, 2009 Posted September 9, 2009 Thank you Ferk. I would consider your piano miniatures one of the best things on this site. As for hidden gems hmm, give me a moment Well I love this piece especially - http://www.youngcomposers.com/forum/concerto-electronics-ensemble-18652.html Voce knows it. Nikolas's little experiment with piano and trumpet was musical and fascinating so I'd consider that a top contender. Thanks Nico! Qc's stuff wasn't always to my taste but it was some of the best crafted stuff I have heard here and outside YC I'd prefer a review of most impoved composer anyway ... this is all so subjective ... Quote
Max Castillo Posted September 9, 2009 Posted September 9, 2009 Yay I've been mentioned a couple of times. I like Marius and Robin and maybe others I've forgotten... Quote
SYS65 Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 Voce, in your first post you don't mention anything about particular kinds of music you just say "by members on here" so I will suggest a few ones from a section nobody seems to remember .... Electronic. (I hope is not wrong to suggest some of my own) of my own: in this thread 3 pieces here. and 1 very dark here. some spacial music here on this thread. and an Album here. by Droppsm really easy but really nice.. by josepablofm some of his experiments haha check the smueske tracks and of course, the Tuskle stuff.... I regret to being able to show you some of my orchestral stuff but that will be very soon. Quote
composerorganist Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 SYS - I agree some real gems in Electronic music. If you saw my post I love the concerto for electronics. SYS - Just hearing one of your 3 pieces, very reminiscent of film/video genre. Not entirely my cup of tea but sounds good. Thanks for sharing and forgive me if I have not commented on your pieces (just so many here!!!!!) Quote
Lord Skye Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 Hey SYS, listened to some of the tracks. I have to tip my hat to you as a fellow FL Studio user and "common people music" composer. I'd like to buy your album. Where can I get it? :) Quote
