Ensembles you've written for live

Featured Replies

There might be no better experience in the field of composition than working with real people performing your music live. :)

What ensembles have you written music for that got a live performance? What's the largest ensemble you've worked with? Have you branched out into conducting? And what were your thoughts about these experiences?

I have worked with:

cello-piano duet

string quartet

brass quintet

chamber orchestra (2/2/2/2, 2/2, timp, perc, strings)

The latest and largest orchestra I'm working with right now is double woodwinds, 4/3/3 brass, timp and perc, and a decent sized string section. It's a BLAST. After several months of hearing your piece performed by the lame GPO orchestra through 10$ headphones, hearing it performed by the real thing is unbelievable. :)

Jazz ensembles ranging from duo/trios to full jazz orchestras.

Most commonly:

Jazz Orchestra

  • 4 trumpets
  • 4 trombones
  • 5 saxes/woodwinds
  • guitar, piano, bass, drums

Blunt Object

  • voice
  • 2 trumpets
  • 2 trombones
  • tuba
  • 3 woodwinds
  • piano, bass, drums

Quintet

  • trombone
  • tenor sax
  • piano, bass, drums
