Herr Kremlin Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 Anyone know some good settings of English text for choirs? Quote
Herr Kremlin Posted October 7, 2009 Author Posted October 7, 2009 Thanks for the help guys :) "Hey this thread isn't about 300 year old orchestra music or Liszt or bad band music, WHY I OUGHTA!!!" Quote
jawoodruff Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 Well there are a couple actually. English has a good tradition of choral music in my opinion. All one really has to do is research. Is there a particular type of text you are looking for? I'll do the research if you have a particular thing in mind. Quote

jawoodruff Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 Well I said *good* settings Yes, and there are many MANY good settings. Ill just give you a few of the choral sites I peruse. The best site, by far imo, of older works is: La Trobe Uni. La Trobe University - Library: Medieval Music Database - Annual cycle of feasts of liturgical chant, liturgical polyphony and secular music of the late middle ages. - online catalog of medieval and renaissance works. IMSLP http://imslp.org/wiki/Category:Vocal_(non-operatic) You will have to research and dig into these sites though. Quote
YC26 Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 Rutter and Eric Whitacre stuff. Theyze are my favorite composers ever! Quote
Black Orpheus Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 I enjoy any of Whitacre's published English text settings. Some of the best known choral works with English texts are Handel's Messiah, Britten's War Requiem, Haydn's Creation, Elgar's The Dream of Gerontius, and Walton's Belshazzar's Feast. Quote

Black Orpheus Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 If those composers bore you then browse a copy of Composers on Composing for Choir for ideas. Maybe Libby Larsen is more up your alley? I like her music but I love reading what she has to say about it. Quote
Dev Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 sing one of my pieces. I always set English. Quote
