J. Lee Graham Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 I just got off the phone with the director of the San Fernando Valley Symphony - the regional orchestra of which I've been a member off-and-on for many years. He's programmed my Symphony in G for performance by the orchestra on September 30!!!! :D :) My piece will open the programme, followed by a couple of movements from concerti performed by winners of a youth competition; Mozart's Symphony #40 in G-minor will round out the bill! What an honour to share the program with one of Mozart's greatest masterpieces. This is humbling indeed. I don't know when I've been so thrilled! Thanks to you guys for all your support. Quote
M_is_D Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 Oh and when are you going to present us with an equally fantastic work? :) despise me loving your symphony, I've heard it far too many times in the car :D Quote
J. Lee Graham Posted April 24, 2006 Author Posted April 24, 2006 This orchestra almost always does archival recordings, so I should be able to get one! Oh and when are you going to present us with an equally fantastic work? despise me loving your symphony, I've heard it far too many times in the car Ooohh! Flattery will get you everywhere! :) Actually, I'm working again on a Symphony in A that I started a long time ago. I received a small commission recently to finish it. I have the first two movements complete, and I am just finishing up the Menuetto. All that remains is to write a finale, for which I already have thematic material in mind. I need to have it finished in about a month, so I'd better get cracking. Quote
Daniel Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 Pardon my French(English), but that's f**kin excellent. Well done. You're very fortunate(well, it's your own doing) that your symphony is great, because it's tough to go on the same bill as such a symphony. Quote
J. Lee Graham Posted April 24, 2006 Author Posted April 24, 2006 Thanks for that. Very much. The two pieces are both in the Classical idiom, in similar keys, and are orchestrated similarly. That's where the similarities end, though. In character, they're like night and day. And I'll never approach him in quality. The more I think about it, the more fortunate - and humbled - I feel. The director has asked me to simplify a few things in the horn parts, which are admittedly somewhat virtuosic, especially in the first movement. I think it's a small price to pay. Quote
Guest Nickthoven Posted April 25, 2006 Posted April 25, 2006 Wowza--you must be very proud indeed! I however have not listened to the symphony, but I would like to, in recorded form, and I'm sure it's wonderful considering the praise. I am glad for your good fortune. :) Quote
