Black Orpheus Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 A quick question for those who are ASCAP publisher members (and only self-publish)... Is it generally necessary to fill out a d/b/a (doing business as) form with your state if you do not intend to work under your publishing name (that is, you want checks made out to your real name even though you add a copyright label to your compositions with your ASCAP publishing name)? I know you can ask for royalty checks from ASCAP to be made out to "Your Name d/b/a Your Publishing Name" instead of the typical "Your Publishing Name," but I don't know if you are able to cash these checks without filing a d/b/a or a business certificate and setting up a separate bank account. Any ideas? And if you fill out a d/b/a do your taxes suddenly become far more complicated than before? Quote
