Christopher Dunn-Rankin Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 So, since there have been a lot of discussion threads on the relative meanings of music, I thought it would be a good idea for those not already familiar with it to have a little background on the field of semiotics - and not wanting to type a whole lot, I found Philip Tagg's introduction to The Semiotics of Music as a downloadable .pdf! While it's certainly not as in-depth as you can go, it provides a good background on Peirce's theories of semiotics, and covers issues like transmission and musico-linguistic origins. www.tagg.org/xpdfs/semiotug.pdf Quote
Sirion Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 The link seems to be broken. EDIT: It works now. That's quite a read! I'm probably going to wait for a couple of days to comment, since it's an extensive, yet heavy read, that demands a couple of read-throughs. Do you have any sort of connection to Sweden I see quite a few Swedish titles in your bibliography. Quote
Ferkungamabooboo Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 For a second I thought you were talking about Richard Watson's work. Intense, I think I'll read it later... Quote
