Tokkemon Posted November 8, 2009 Posted November 8, 2009 A name doesn't mean anything now. Okay. I'm gonna call you "Chuckles" from now on. It shouldn't mean anything...
SYS65 Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 I've been wathing the competition threads and I wanted to enter but looks like always is a very reduced stuff, Jose was only for a single voice, now 6 players only, next time try to set a little wider options.

Well, I only do it because I can't judge large ensemble pieces; also, I don't expect a piece of that scope finished within a month.
IceWind91 Posted November 13, 2009 Posted November 13, 2009 I'm entering. I think I can get something in before the deadline.
sabiansoldier Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 How about voice?not technically an "instrument"...but chamber music nonetheless. could I write my entry for SATB perhaps?? :)
blackballoons Posted November 16, 2009 Author Posted November 16, 2009 How about voice?not technically an "instrument"...but chamber music nonetheless. could I write my entry for SATB perhaps?? :) Errr...I'd rather you didn't, but if you've already started then go ahead. :]
j.hall Posted November 19, 2009 Posted November 19, 2009 Ok here's my submission. Didn't write it for this competition in mind but since the theme was winter I thought I could participate. The title is in swedish and means A Girl In The Snow. Oh, the mp3 is 2:56 long, but I expect it to take 3 minutes if a person played this. Edit: Err why did the mp3 and pdf attachments disappear? :S Oh well I'll upload it from box: mp3: http://www.box.net/shared/mji1zuabte pdf: http://www.box.net/shared/y9e0kqpf49
sabiansoldier Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 OK,,, here's my entry! its a short piece for string quartet. When you said "winter",,, I thought "religion", and that was the inspiration behind this particular piece. Composed in the spirit of Ockeghem, Morales and Byrd. Please excuse sibelius' MIDI sounds,,, they really are terrible! Enjoy! Bachian Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 I tried to pull up a Wintery mood, and this is what I came up with. November Competition Entry: Sinfonia - Mp3 Sinfonia - PDF
sabiansoldier Posted November 29, 2009 Posted November 29, 2009 I tried to pull up a Wintery mood, and this is what I came up with. November Competition Entry: Sinfonia - Mp3 Sinfonia - PDF Bravo on that sinfonia Bachian...it is excellent indeed! Conjured up images of Santas workshop for me! XD
mahler Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 This may not sound very wintery(neither the piece nor the description), but what I eventually came up with whilst thinking of winter was this. "The quest for inner peace in an artists mind, as he looks upon the superficial mind of the masses". It is entitled "Quälerei", which is german, meaning "torment". IceWind91 Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 Here's my entry; Winter Fantasy. It's scored for 6 woodwinds; piccolo, 2 flutes, 2 clarinets, and bassoon. This is the largest ensemble I've ever written for. It's a light and cheery take on winter, depicting snow falling from the sky and swirling in the wind. It then shifts to a more peaceful scene, perhaps a winter landscape under the moonlight. Then, the music once again becomes bright and cheery, perhaps showing the same scene in the daylight, depicting the joy winter brings. Some parts of this may sound a little rushed (they do to me, at least). I'll admit, it's definitely not as polished as I would have liked, but the end of the month sort of snuck up on me. :P winterfantasy.mp3 winterfantasy.pdf Sorry for the unrealistic MP3 rendering; it was the best I could do.
blackballoons Posted December 1, 2009 Author Posted December 1, 2009 Thanks for your submissions! To everyone else: submissions are due. :] Please post by the weekend and you can expect results within a week, if all goes as planned.
Gamma Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 Busy month, started this a while back and never got the chance to do altering. Now it's the due date...Oh well, I submit it anyways... Winter mp3 Winter pdf
YC26 Posted December 9, 2009 Posted December 9, 2009 Alright, Scores and a winner are coming soon. I didn't bother and try logging into this awful site this weekend when Chopin was uglyfying it. Soon, soon, soon.
YC26 Posted December 16, 2009 Posted December 16, 2009 I'm almost done reviewing everything. Expect the results soon. Like I said before, the YC remodeling slowed stuff down for me.
mahler Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 What is happening with the competition results? Will they never be posted??
sabiansoldier Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 Honestly, I actually dont care anymore about this. Its been 3 months and no results. Way to run a competition.. I remember listening a while back to a baroque simfonia... I say that wins! :D
benxiwf Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 Since the original judging has not been completed, jawoodruff and myself have taken over since we are both chamber music reviewers. I will post results in a separate thread today.
