Off axis sounds way much better because since Marshall amps has lots of treble in their character. You should try off centered miking too.

What kind of metal tone are you looking for? Some styles of metal lend themselves towards different tones more than other. Just give me a little out line of what you are looking for like maybe "I want a deep chugging sound with a smooth lead tone" or "I want a harsh tone."
