Weca Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 I have some MIDI orchestral tracks; right now they sound MIDIlicious but I figure with a sequencer I can make em sound a bit more human by slightly randomizing the note start times, etc. I would also like to control all the other MIDI variables (duration, velocity, pitch bend) and if it comes with any samples other than general MIDI, that'd be great too! Any recommendations? If there's no consensus I'll probably download Ableton Live tomorrow. :P Quote
lof Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 I am not aware of any free and worth trying ones, but here is the list List of MIDI editors and sequencers - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia The best I ever worked with is Vienna Suite with it's Vienna Symphonic Library. Have a look at VIENNA SYMPHONIC LIBRARY especially demo zone is worth checking out Quote
Weca Posted November 12, 2009 Author Posted November 12, 2009 Reaper is way too huge & complex. I downloaded it and I can't even get MIDI files to play back audibly... something to do with how I'm routing the MIDI-out I guess... I just want something that will let me control velocities, durations, and pitch bends of individual MIDI notes. I'll learn something like Reaper or Logic one day, right now I just need the quick n dirty fix :P Quote
Guest JmAY Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 It's been said before, Cuckos Reaper is where it's at for free sequencing. Acid Express is decent for loop based stuff. Audacity is great for wav editing... Quote
icelizarrd Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 Weca, you might try LMMS. I don't have a lot of experience with it (at all), but it looks pretty solid. It's been said before, Cuckos Reaper is where it's at for free sequencing.I agree, but at the risk of being pedantic, REAPER isn't actually free: it's just shareware/trialware without any limitations.
