chopin Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 There are 2 steps in order to take us from a forum, to a network integrated forum. The first step is to convert us over to Invision Board. This process may take half a day. During this time, YC will be shut down. The next process is integrating current members with the network. I am unsure how long this process will take, however it most likely will take another day's work, in which YC will have to remain shut down. So this is a heads up that there will be at least two steps in order to get us to where we want to head. I am looking to convert us over to Invision Board as soon as I am done testing the conversion process. If all goes smooth, I will begin conversion late tonight, or tomorrow. Quote
Marius Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 Brace for impact! :P Sounds great, I'm happy that this is underway...we'll see how it all turns out. See you all on the other side? Quote
James H. Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 Yup, and then we went to vB when choppy bought the site because it was better, but now IPB is better for the networking integrations, so back ho! Quote
Ravels Radical Rivalry Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 Two whole days without YC?! Do you have any idea what this will do to the world; to the ecosystem; to the human race as we know it? *dramatic chipmunk* This will be a test of our patience. It will be a test of our souls. If we come out of the other end alive we shall be a more together community. We will learn to love what we have and enjoy it more thoroughly. It shall be a dark and dim two days. I wonder where the food will come from. Where will our source of sustenance be? How shall I ever survive in a world without YC? . . . Quote
HeckelphoneNYC Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 WAIT..... sooooo we're going to be 2 whole days without yc while you work on the board? Starting tonight or tomorrow???? Quote
OmarSanchez Posted November 16, 2009 Posted November 16, 2009 as long as I dont have to regegister....I'm too lazy to do that. Quote
chopin Posted November 16, 2009 Author Posted November 16, 2009 There is a slight problem with the IPB conversion process. Member 1's ID will now equal 15000. Thread 1's ID will equal 15000 and so on. As someone who is a little on the ocd side himself, this bothers me. But does this bother anyone else? Quote

So, member #'s will turn from 1196 to ... 16196 ... or something? It'll make us look like we have fifteen-thousand more members than we actually do... :w00t: Quote
chopin Posted November 16, 2009 Author Posted November 16, 2009 Yup, for example, Mike's number will be 15000 instead of 1. I can get this fixed according to date (it won't match vbulletin exactly, but it will be a more accurate number). But this will be yet another cost. Quote
James H. Posted November 16, 2009 Posted November 16, 2009 Yeah, that sounds annoying. But, would it affect statistics? Quote
chopin Posted November 16, 2009 Author Posted November 16, 2009 All stats would remain intact. The ID's will be bizarre though, and affect the looks of the URL. Quote

Posted November 16, 2009 Posted November 16, 2009 http://www.youngcomposers.com/forum/vbulletin-invision-conversion-22728.html#post328982 becomes http://www.youngcomposers.com/forum/vbulletin-invision-conversion-3456342456434524522728.html#post456345634536435328234532454342982 And I'll become member number 18,023 and have 17,861 posts. ARGGH CHOPIN, I HATE YOU HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO REMEMBER ALL THESE NUMBERS? J/k. =D Quote
Ravels Radical Rivalry Posted November 16, 2009 Posted November 16, 2009 Yeah, count me as ocd. I like my numbers to be accurate. Quote
chopin Posted November 17, 2009 Author Posted November 17, 2009 Alert: The board will most likely go down tonight, and be back up sometime tomorrow, if not tomorrow, Thursday. Quote
Bachian Posted November 19, 2009 Posted November 19, 2009 I don't care for the layout theme of this one, but I assume you'll make it look nice over the next few weeks. Quote
chopin Posted November 19, 2009 Author Posted November 19, 2009 We're back! That was painful, but the worse part is over. Don't worry, we are going to have a redesign of this forum, I just didn't have time to get it designed yet. Hopefully Mike/Jen can help me configure some backend forum duties. Anyway, the first part of the network overhaul is complete! Quote

chopin Posted November 19, 2009 Author Posted November 19, 2009 We are going to start the network migration tomorrow. Fortunately, there will be no downtime during this period, however the traditional sign up/sign in method will be handled by our network, Record Hall. Think of Young Composers a subsidiary (a very valuable one!) of the network. Please note that although we are migrating, this does not mean the network will be fully functional at this time. We still need to sort out any problems. Quote
Anders Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 Think of Young Composers a subsidiary (a very valuable one!) of the network. still with the market-speak i see. Could we hope for language packs? Obviously the main yc skin would have to be in englandian, and in adition to this there could be a skin within which we could change languages. (this blue one right now, f. ex) Just wondering. ;) Doesen't seem like too much of a pain to install. Quote
chopin Posted November 21, 2009 Author Posted November 21, 2009 Checkmark all your messages, then scroll towards the bottom. Click on the drop down menu, and choose "Mark Read", then click "go". You may have to scroll through a few pages, but it shouldn't take you more than a few minutes to mark your messages as read. Quote
Maximilian Caldwell Posted November 22, 2009 Posted November 22, 2009 In IP, are we supposed to have our collective messengers disabled? I tried to PM both you and the other Mike, but you both 'couldn't receive messages at this time.' Quote
Daniel Posted November 29, 2009 Posted November 29, 2009 Can we PLEASE get rid of the hideous photo plugin? It's incredibly slow and clunky, and while it may work well for a personal website, it is completely useless here. Quote
