This is an excellent idea! I wondered about that a while back.

This would actually help with the entire "Sight Reader" idea I came up with.

People could actually take pieces for their particular instrument and submit

their ideas back in the Solo Instruments forum.

Cool.

I voted yes, but I'd like to add an asterisk. As I indicated in the original post, I personally would prefer to see a separate forum for non-piano solo instruments because I think there is quite a distinction to be made. Most instruments are monophonic, which implies a completely different compositional approach. Granted Guitar and Harp are polyphonic animals unto themselves, and they are not easy to write for, especially if you are not a player, but solo writing for every instrument, including even these is quite a bit different than writing for piano. If I were a writer for piano, I might even be concerned that my favorite forum was being hi-jacked by other instrumentalists. Well.. not really, but it could overcroud the forum a bit.

On the other hand, I understand that the administrator likes to keep it compact and simple, although I don't entirely understand why adding one more forum makes it that much more unweildy. I guess you need extra moderators etc. But one should consider how popular a separate forum like this might be, which of course is hard to guage.

Ok, I'm done.

Yes, with subfora.

Well, the poll asks whether the forum should be converted so this implies no subfora would be added, and the vote is currently 6-1. I would hope that overcrowding or a decline in specialism would not result from this change, but if that were to happen, we'd cross that bridge when we came to it.

As it stands, we would prefer to convert an existing forum. More than one forum for solo instruments is arguably superfluous. Of course, I may be proven wrong if this change is implemented, but I'm quite confident as of now. ;)

I mean converting the piano music section to Solo instruments, and then having individual sections, such as Wind, Strings, Piano, etc.

But layouts like that are quite clumsy IMO...

I quite agree, which is why a conversion is favoured as opposed to an addition. ;)

Let's not be so hasty on this change yet, regardless of the poll results. We may change everything into eras instead. Maybe not, I am not sure yet. It would be a mistake to change the title "Piano Music" into "Solo Music" because we are finally starting to rank well in the search engines for that key phrase.
