David Posted August 11, 2005 Posted August 11, 2005 Definitions vary from person to person about some words, whereas other words have a very definite meaning. I'd be interested in finding out opinions about the words 'modern' and 'contemporary' when put into context with 'performance' and 'composer/composition'. So: What is a contemporary composer (ie when are they from)? What is a modern composer? What is a contemporary composition? What is a modern composition? What is a contemporary performance? What is a modern performance? And any other iterations you can think of. Quote
jacob Posted August 11, 2005 Posted August 11, 2005 Ask not 'what,' but 'when.' *example* I dunno. I don't draw distinction between modern and contemporary. Modernist, maybe. *shrug* Quote
David Posted August 11, 2005 Author Posted August 11, 2005 I still ask 'what', because I think some people would say that a composer who write baroque style music now is not contemporary. Quote
