Indiana Threepwood Posted May 5, 2006 Posted May 5, 2006 Hey, I'm really new here and I love this site from what I've seen so far. I only just decided I wanted to compose a few months ago, but I've had some musical experience in bands, etc. Anyway, I have a slight and stupid dilemma. You're gonna think this is a stupid and obvious question I'm assuming. How do you change you're "display name" for your account? Cause I saw this site a long time ago and signed up abruptly right then, then I came back to it and I really wanna change it now. I couldn't figure it out, but perhaps I'm just an idiot. Also, is there a difference between a Young Composer's account and a YC Forum account. I'm really confused about that and what the whole wiki on the main Young Composer's page is for. Thanks a lot! J. Lee Graham Posted May 5, 2006 Posted May 5, 2006 Hi, and welcome! I'm almost 100% sure that for security reasons you cannot change your display name. Your display name and profile name are the same. I'm not sure I understand the second part of your question. Mike, or any other Mod really well versed in the guts of this system: do you know what he's referring to? Quote
Mike Posted May 5, 2006 Posted May 5, 2006 If you want your display name changed, PM me and I'll do it for you. ;) You have the option of keeping the same login username and only changing your display name, or I can change both of them for you. By "Young Composer's account" I assume you are referring to the wiki. You will need a separate account for the wiki because the board software and wiki software are separate entities. I'm also going to move this to the Announcements, Technical Problems and Suggestions forum because it will be more relevant there. Hope that helped, and welcome! Quote
Indiana Threepwood Posted May 5, 2006 Author Posted May 5, 2006 Wow, thanks a lot! Such a quick response and so helpful. I've made one musical contribution so far in "Harmonizing a Melody" in melody #1. Check it out if you feel like it. More to come from me, soon. Thanks again! Quote
Guest Invisionary Posted May 6, 2006 Posted May 6, 2006 Didn't someone suggest you could change the custom user tile after 300 posts too? :D Quote
bob stole my cookie Posted May 6, 2006 Posted May 6, 2006 500-200 +(2^9 + - 3 * 47 + 1/2 * (7^2 + 11))/2 - 37/(3^4 - 7 * - 8 + 11) * ((- 33 + 1)/8 + 6) ;) (600 POSTS :w00t: ) Quote
bob stole my cookie Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 Skillz. :P or way too much time  so Mike, what is it, 300 or 500? Quote
Guest Invisionary Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 O I knew it was 500, I just keep messing around about it. Jeremy Quote

M_is_D Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 Why did the admins decide that who ever reached 500 posts could get a box where to change his/her display name? This looks like a TV competition :( Quote
J. Lee Graham Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 I'm thinking about suggesting (officially) that nobody can post compositions until they have 50 posts. We get a lot of people wandering in here who post compositions immediately upon arrival and expect feedback before they contribute anything to the community, then when they don't get it immediately they never come back. I'd like to encourage contribution and participation before folks start having expectations. I'm still thinking about it, though. Quote
Mike Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 Good suggestion, Lee. But I'm thinking 50 posts is perhaps a little too much. Maybe 25 or 30? Anyway, I think it's definitely worth discussing further. :( Quote
Jeremiah Hong Posted May 19, 2006 Posted May 19, 2006 O I knew it was 500, I just keep messing around about it. Jeremy Sure. :PI believe you. Quote
