Norby Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 Well dudes. The rules are simple. You have to write a solo piece: any lenght, any instrument, any theme; and you have to record as you play it. Its that easy. Then you provide a: - Score in PDF (readable!!) - And an Mp3 (as you play your own piece on the instrument you choose.) - It would be great if you would have a video recording also, but its optional.* SEND THE SCORES/PIECES TO: mnorbi@t-online.hu Prize: You can give me ideas... Contestants: - Morivou - The MaskedTrumpeter - Icewind91 - SabianSoldier - CheeseLord - Micheal P. - Jesusfreak1277 - JijGaat - Beautifulnoise JUDGES: - Jawoodruff - Me - Henk Vogel - ? DEADLINE UPDATED: 2010, February 12, 12:00 --- Of course you can accompany yourself if you want, or you can use other sound effects as accomaniment. I've created a short example how you can accomany yourself. My playing is very out of tune I know (I've started playing the F.Horn a year ago), and I'm out of rhythm too, but I didnt want to record it again: ............................ Morivou Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 I have an idea for a prize... the winning piece becomes the subject for a part two "arrangement" competition where they will arrange the piece you've written to try and see how it can be best interpreted/understood by other people as well.
Norby Posted December 29, 2009 Author Posted December 29, 2009 Not a bad idea...anyway you want to join? :)
sabiansoldier Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 I would like to enter please! sounds like fun!
Norby Posted December 30, 2009 Author Posted December 30, 2009 no problem :) --- DEADLINE UPDATED: 2010, January 12, 12:00
CheeseLord Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 Saw this thread one day too late :ermm: ...suppose it's a bit late to enter now though :(
Norby Posted December 31, 2009 Author Posted December 31, 2009 No its not true. I decided the deadline only today so you can join. :) Maybe you think that its late to join because of the deadline, but dudes I cant believe that you cant write a solo piece in two weeks. Its impossible. If you have to write a piece for full orchestra I would give a month or two, but its a solo piece competition. Not that hard. Not late to join to everybody. Of course I can extend the deadline if you want guys, its not a strict deadline I just want to start writing today, since most of people start to write a piece in the last few minutes/days. 1
CheeseLord Posted January 1, 2010 Posted January 1, 2010 Ooooooo....count me in then!!! P.S. Can you use digital stuff, or does it have to be live? Some things for the piano I want will take at least a lot of practice for my somewhat noobier piano abilities
Michael P. Posted January 1, 2010 Posted January 1, 2010 I'll do it.... This sounds like loads of fun.
andy-uk Posted January 1, 2010 Posted January 1, 2010 lol why is your mp3 a swear word......has it been hacked?
Norby Posted January 1, 2010 Author Posted January 1, 2010 Lol no its not hacked  I just give such names to files when I cant figure out better sry. CheeseLord: Yes it has to be absolutely live! You have to perform it 100%. Write such a piece that you can permorf, it dont have to be virtuoso stuff (of course it would be better). But in the accompaniment of course you can use samples or other things. In the sample I provided I'm tapping on the table, I didnt use any drum sample, so as an accompaniment you can use such stuff. But the solo is has to be continuous if you understand, means the accompaniment here is to make a kind of ambient to your playing it cant replace it or stop it. --- And wow! We are now 7. It will be a hard competition if you all handle your stuff in time :D --- (*self promotion time* --> http://forum.youngcomposers.com/t22604/me-playing-stars-and-stripes-4ever--horrowitz-s-version/page__pid__326106__st__0entry326106 <-- please listen/comment) 1
Elizabeth Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 I think this would be a fun thing to try. I've been wanting to write a solo for soprano voice for a while, and this would be a nice challenge. (of course it would be me singing :P)
Norby Posted January 3, 2010 Author Posted January 3, 2010 Ok. I write you on the contestants list :) At first I thought of real instruments, but why not? 1
TheMaskedTrumpeter Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 An update on my entry - It's beginning to come along nicely. It's going to be a solo for euphonium.
Hieran_Del8 Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 No restrictions at all on the solo? Is this supposed to be improv that one transcribes after performing?
Norby Posted January 5, 2010 Author Posted January 5, 2010 I never said that it should be an impro  I said write a solo piece than play it...than provide score+mp3 As the title says: Write and Play NOT PLAY AND WRITE!! 1
andy-uk Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 oh no... stupid work commitments have got me till february, so I dont have time now.. sorry Norby... :(
