SYS65 Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 Well, I don't want to sound too bad, and I know this site is pretty complex but maybe you should hire different people .... ? Because members are leaving the site, ... well I know you're on it.. Quote
chopin Posted February 16, 2010 Author Posted February 16, 2010 It's not that easy, and I've went through 3 sets of developers already. Developing a relationship with complete strangers across the world and trusting them to architect a vision that is 100% conceptual is an extremely difficult task. The only way I achieved what we have today is by my stubborn persistence. We are almost there, I know it looks ugly on the outside, but these next set of updates should complete the missing parts. I am very happy with their work and most of the problems are just surface problems. The functionality is there, it just isn't connected correctly yet. The best next step for me would be to bring on a part-time partner to share future profits with, someone who I can trust, and have on call instead of hiring for contract work. The ultimate solution is to hire an employee, but I can't afford a full time employee, we aren't even making profits at this time! As far as members leaving the site, it seems to have picked up in activity as of late, which is a big relief to me. Quote
SYS65 Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 Well I see .... in case you're interested I know a girl (online only) who made marion2u.com , is has not upload section but the forum and all looks pretty well done, .. she's from Belgium but lives in Oslo Norway ... Hey in other issues .... I just moved another of my pieces and I found zero Latin styles on Genre, Subgenre, Form etc ... I had to chose "Modernism" and others... If you have time t do it, add... in Genre: Latin in subgenre: Bossa Nova, Salsa, Samba, Tango, Cumbia, Rhumba, Merengue, Mambo, Latin (open to others) and in forms: Song, Habanera, Huapango, (I recall more later...) because there is nothing about this.. Quote
chopin Posted February 17, 2010 Author Posted February 17, 2010 I'm hesitant to add new sections right now because I am afraid they will be removed when the test site is transferred onto the live site. I will address all the annoyances once the test site has migrated here. As for the person you know, does she know programming? Honestly, I am trying to get in touch with Mike to see if he would like to be a legal partner with me. If he says no, I have a few options locally, but I am not sure if having a local partner (someone who I know personally) is a good idea. Choosing a partner is tricky, and my ideal partner would be someone who has a passion for programming, as well as respect for this site. Quote
SYS65 Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 OK, the Latin genres are not urgent ... but when all this finish be sure to add those... I'll contact and invite her to see by herself the network and the forum and I think the "needs" for this site are kinda obvious just by visiting the site, and yes, I think she's a programmer but I don't know more... all I know is that she is so Fan of Marion Raven that she created that site. I PM you with the rest. Quote
jawoodruff Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 When I get home from work, I will restart Apache to see if that solves the speed issues. As for you having login problems, this is alarming. How are you able to upload music with these problems? Resetting the password should be flawless. I need an example of what is wrong with your particular account, so any screenshots of the misbehavior would be desired. Sorry for the delay in responding, I was in St Louis for two days. Anyways, the speed is better BUT when I go to change password it says I have entered an incorrect password. I will retry again today. Um *cough* I think I found the problem. It was completely on my end - looks like I was trying to change a password that I already had changed. *cough* Quote
SergeOfArniVillage Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 Ok, this is getting ridiculous. Logging into www.youngcomposers.com to sign in has become ridiculous. The Social Network site is ultra slow, despite the fact that my web browser, Google Chrome, runs wonderfully for any other site I choose. After logging in the past 2 days, I've been able to only get to the forum's threads where the music links to the Social Network: I am unable to get to the site where the music actually is. This is extremely frustrating, and I've been unable to do my duties as a reviewer due to something that is entirely beyond my control. It's a miracle I'm even able to log-in (because the only way I was able to log in was by using a cached Google page of Youngcomposers.com: trying to get to the current site was doomed to failure). Please fix this problem ASAP! Quote
Tokkemon Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 The uploader is sucking recently.... And its really, really, really, really, really, annoying. Quote

chopin Posted February 19, 2010 Author Posted February 19, 2010 I'm aware of the speed problems, and I am hoping with the next update this issue will have been resolved. I'm not really sure what is making the site so slow, but I will have you guys go through the test site in a few weeks to check for issues before implementation. Quote
SYS65 Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 Yesterday the site just disappeard for me, hade error 404, I don't know if it was me or what ... after a couple of minutes I could go back ... Is it so slow in all browsers ? ... I use IE8 , but I tried Chrome and is about the same, if works better in others tell me which one to download it and use it while this all matters are fixed. Quote
Guest Bitterduck Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 It's slow in all browsers. Also I get that 404 error from time to time. Quote
chopin Posted February 19, 2010 Author Posted February 19, 2010 What about the forum? Did you get the 404 on the forum subdomain? Quote
SYS65 Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 I can't tell you a 100% sure, but what I recall is that I was browsing and the site disappeared, ... wait, ... Yes, actually yes, because I clicked my homepage button several times, and my homepage is http://forum.youngcomposer.com/ Quote
chopin Posted February 19, 2010 Author Posted February 19, 2010 Next time this happens, can you remember to take a screenshot being sure to capture the address? Quote
CheeseLord Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 I think the s makes all the difference: compare http://forum.youngcomposer.com (what you typed) to http://forum.youngcomposers.com (what works) HOpe this helps!! :) Quote
SYS65 Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 No wait a minute, my exact Homepage URL is: http://forum.youngcomposers.com/ when the site disappeared I clicked the homepage button to go back and that's when the 404 happened, it last about 2 minutes, I saw the network tray icon in it was "online" I went to google to see if there was a general problem but no, it did load google and facebook. But it could have been a local problem... It happened only yesterday I think, is not a common problem but if happens againg I take the screenshot. Quote
jawoodruff Posted February 20, 2010 Posted February 20, 2010 Ok, so... I got my password changed finally. Now, I'm having trouble staying signed in on the network as well. Quote
guitarplaya1990 Posted February 20, 2010 Posted February 20, 2010 dont know if this has been said before but when i open a list of genres on one of my uploads, is doesnt give me an option not to choose one. Once i open the window i am forced to choose a genre even if i dont know which one my composition fits under. I cant seem to figure out how to delete a genre name, if i dont want it. Quote
James H. Posted February 20, 2010 Posted February 20, 2010 That is on the list of requests, worry not. Quote
Black Orpheus Posted February 20, 2010 Posted February 20, 2010 When you get a notification that someone wants to friend you on the network it says "[insert name here] want to make you a friend!" Quote
SYS65 Posted February 20, 2010 Posted February 20, 2010 Cool, I'll insert "[Kylie Minogue] wants to make you a friend" Quote
SergeOfArniVillage Posted February 20, 2010 Posted February 20, 2010 The weird thing is, that with my "super-slow" problem, it's only an off and on thing. Sometimes I can log on just fine, but 50% of the time, it's so awfully slow I literally can'tlog on. I just have to hope that it will decide to work  Thanks for looking into it! Quote
Black Orpheus Posted February 21, 2010 Posted February 21, 2010 Cool, I'll insert "[Kylie Minogue] wants to make you a friend" I'd be okay with that, but my point was that "to want" is not conjugated properly! Instead of "[name] want to make you a friend!" we should have "[name] wants to make you a friend." Quote
SYS65 Posted February 21, 2010 Posted February 21, 2010 Ou .. yeah, I added the s because I though you typed it wrong... and the "make you a friend" ... doesn't it sound weird ?, ... "added you as a friend" or "wants to be your friend" .... Quote
