chopin Posted February 22, 2010 Posted February 22, 2010 Please bookmark the test site I would like to schedule everyone on this site to test the new iteration of the website on Wednesday February 24, 2010. Please test the functionality only. Design issues are still being taken care of, and we are aware of the overlapping header when logged in. Try to make the best of it for now while testing. What things to look for: 1. Registration problems (yes, aside from testing your old accounts (if applicable), please register new accounts, even multiple if you want, and test those accounts. Feel free to "friend" your multiple accounts to see how the system works. 2. Uploading problems 3. Speed of site (Keep in mind the test site is on a slower server than what we are currently on). 4. Megabyte calculation of space (Test this to death. Upload, reupload, delete files. Test to see if the calculations are being correct). 5. The IM on both the network and the forum. 6. The search results, testing the music and forum results. 7. Personal profile information. Once the design has been complete, we can then nitpick over design rules. I expect everyone who tests to provide suggestions on how you would like to see the layout of the site if there are criticisms. I'm at the end of my budget so be practical with suggestions. We get one free week of bug fixing, so let's make the most of that week. Please spread the word about testing the test site, so I don't make the same mistake again by prematurely introducing the network into the community without being "properly" tested. We have to rigorously test every day as soon as we hit February 24 for about a week if I am to avoid another premature launch. The difficult thing is that I am on a time limit, because the developers can't wait for us for more than 1 to 2 weeks during our testing phase. Thus, being proactive during this time is essential. Rosenskjold Posted February 22, 2010 Posted February 22, 2010 Can we post problems we find in this thread? Quote
chopin Posted February 22, 2010 Author Posted February 22, 2010 Please do, but remember, testing begins on Wednesday. Quote
DJ Fatuus Posted February 22, 2010 Posted February 22, 2010 Strange! I'm seeing profile messages I didn't know I had. These are shots from my normal/forum/old profile, and from my profile when I clicked on your link and logged in: http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/6204/yc1.jpg http://img718.imageshack.us/img718/4962/yc2.jpg Oh, there are also discrepancies between the forum posts and profile view figures. Also, when I sent a message to someone's profile, it placed 3 backslashes before each apostrophe. Also, I posted a message to "The Wire", it appeared fine and there was the usual green box saying it posted fine, but clicking "click to dismiss" has no effect... can't close it. I'm on Chrome Win XP. Quote
HeckelphoneNYC Posted February 23, 2010 Posted February 23, 2010 I think the design is kind of bland. It's all white with a violin on top and a bit of what looks like liquid nitrogen! I wish we could just keep this site. I feel like I'm constantly jumping around, from site to site. I'm just getting used to this one! Come on! Quote
chopin Posted February 23, 2010 Author Posted February 23, 2010 We are keeping this site. The forum will remain the same, only difference is, it will be integrated better with the network for a better user experience, and it will also have an IM (replacing the pager). The network colors will change to match the forum, and user profiles will now be integrated with the network. The layout is really what I am concerned with at the moment, I am trying to simplify it to make it load more quickly. Quote
HeckelphoneNYC Posted February 23, 2010 Posted February 23, 2010 I thought we were changing the whole entire site AGAIN! But we aren't. Thank goodness *sigh of releif* Will I be able to keep the YC classic theme I like so much? I don't know if I can help you with making it faster. I'd just assume 2 seconds of your life waiting isn't the worst thing on earth. Quote
chopin Posted February 23, 2010 Author Posted February 23, 2010 The structure of the site will remain the same. Young Composers will be a network integrated with the forum, on this subdomain. We'll probably keep the classic theme, I don't see why not. The only thing that would change may be the banner (so that it matches the site) and the top navigation so that the navigation appears universal. When I talk about speed, I am talking about our network, mostly the homepage. The forum speed is fine. Quote
DJ Fatuus Posted February 23, 2010 Posted February 23, 2010 Any ideas on the profile discrepancies? Quote
chopin Posted February 23, 2010 Author Posted February 23, 2010 Any ideas on the profile discrepancies? The discrepancies are easily explained. The test site's database is dated sometime in early January when I started the work. Quote
HeckelphoneNYC Posted February 23, 2010 Posted February 23, 2010 Also, can we please get post percentages? I miss having them. After this, will people be able to have a name change? I want to change mine. Quote
chopin Posted February 23, 2010 Author Posted February 23, 2010 I could get post percentages depending if I can get a partner for YC. Right now I am solo, and I don't have the knowledge to implement on my own. Same goes for name changes. Due to the change in our architecture, changing a name is going to be much harder I think, although I will ask the developers what they think about this. Quote
HeckelphoneNYC Posted February 23, 2010 Posted February 23, 2010 I'm glad you are posting so promptly. I know Mike is gone, but is Jen gone too? and Ron? It's just you? I'd be glad to help, but however I can't do much in the way of technical stuff. in fact, probably nothing in that way. :/ Quote
chopin Posted February 23, 2010 Author Posted February 23, 2010 Mike is gone, Jen is busy, Ron is still here. When I say partner though, I mean someone else who can help me invest financially and/or technically..and in return, the partner will get X percent ownership of the site. Right now, it is just me, and I am looking to bring on another body to join me with my venture. Ideally, I will probably want a main partner near my area, so I am carefully looking at some college friends, and VERY carefully seeking anyone I work with at my current place of employment. I realize that after this extreme customization, it is very hard for me to continue this alone, due to the fact I am running out of budget, and my skills and time are not best used for programming projects. Quote
DJ Fatuus Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 but one profile has messages A, B and C, while the other profile has messages B, C and D. It's not just an older database. Quote
chopin Posted February 24, 2010 Author Posted February 24, 2010 Don't worry too much about discrepancies over data. Let's worry about data discrepancies once we migrate back on the original site. If you still noticed the discrepancy, I will report it as a bug, and I will get the developers to address this. Quote
composerorganist Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 Ok - I couldn't do much as I have not storage space available at the new sit. Can log on though I get an error message saying it could log me on - but I got to my music posted (well what did load). As for the other things you ask - Don't have time over the nest few days to do this. Quote
Tokkemon Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 What language is the site written in? I dunno about being a partner esp. not financially (I have my own debts to pay :-/) but I can surely help with programming depending on the language and I'm eager to learn. Quote
Tokkemon Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 BTW, I uploaded a test piece to the new implementation. Didn't seen any faster than before but it did work! Sometimes the old site wouldn't let me upload so this is promising. I also like the new homepage better. Better graphics etc. Quote

Michael P. Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 I Clicked on the 'Large Ensemble' link and I got this message: Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Access denied for user 'yc_ycadmin'@'localhost' (using password: YES) in /var/www/vhosts/leadsoft.eu/subdomains/ycforum/httpdocs/cache/skin_cache/cacheid_5/skin_forum.php on line 103 Error connecting: Access denied for user 'yc_ycadmin'@'localhost' (using password: YES) I don't no what it is but it looks scary. :jedi: Quote
SYS65 Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 ^_^ I'm not sure but I think is better for programmers if you mention your enviropment..... (Operating System + Browser) Quote
Tokkemon Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 ^_^ I'm not sure but I think is better for programmers if you mention your enviropment..... (Operating System + Browser) Absolutely. It would def. help because OSes and Browsers vary among people. So any user-end variable should be declared. 1 Quote
HeckelphoneNYC Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 I uploaded a piece to the forum, and it was a MIDI, with a score. It was put in the orchestral forum instead of chamber, had "orchestral" as instrumentation, the score won't work and the piece won't play. Suggestions? Quote
