Nattergalen Posted September 18, 2010 Posted September 18, 2010 Everything is ok and I want to post now in the forum. Quote
chopin Posted September 24, 2010 Author Posted September 24, 2010 We should finally be ready to move the Test Site into the live site. Please test this weekend. I know there will still be errors to sort out, but the forum should be fully functional, as should mp3 uploads. The new system should be quicker than our current site, and integrate our forum much more nicely with the network. Quote
robinjessome Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 Just curious - how will the blend work? It seems current live profiles are completely separate from the test site - i.e. avatars, signatures, etc... will the roll-out incorporate our current profiles or will we need to reset? :hmmm: Quote
chopin Posted September 25, 2010 Author Posted September 25, 2010 It "should" transfer over, but I will find out. Quote
Tokkemon Posted September 25, 2010 Posted September 25, 2010 Soo.... we're going to another ugly test site? One day, I might stop coming. Quote
robinjessome Posted September 25, 2010 Posted September 25, 2010 Soo.... we're going to another ugly test site? One day, I might stop coming. One day, we might all wonder - when did all the incessant complaining stop? :whistling: 1 Quote
chopin Posted September 25, 2010 Author Posted September 25, 2010 I will say this again and again, if you don't like the network portion of this site, you don't have to use it. The forum is fully functional without it. Unfortunately the first major iteration of these changes did not really give users a reason to use the network. This update is designed to fix this structural flaw that was apparent in the system. I am a little more confident these changes will bring life to the updated network. Quote
dscid Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 Why not just make it look professional? I can tell you, if I had never been to this site before, and stumbled upon it, I would keep searching (based on the test site) The color scheme is terrible, and so is the font - big bubbly brown YC.... 1 Quote
HeckelphoneNYC Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 Okay, it's still ugly. That might turn away some people. And there is nothing much wrong with the site now. I believe if it ain't broke, don't fix it. But you did. Oh well. Heklaphone Quote
SYS65 Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 I know the colors are not so important and can be changed quickly but..... I still don't like the browns. Chopin did you see the ones I tried ? Chopin, I'm sorry for criticizing the colors, I tried and it was more difficult of what I thought, these were the best 4 I could do, (well, rapidly) purple green1 yellow green2 I think we should try something like the yellow one, does it takes much to do a CSS for those color so I (all) may see the site like that, browse a little while, and see if turn us a little more happier ? chopin Posted October 1, 2010 Author Posted October 1, 2010 I saw your sample designs, how did you do this? Through photoshop? I might try experimenting with lighter colors before we go live. But even if we go live with these colors, I will continue to work on getting the aesthetic right. The colors are easy to change, it's the layout that is proving to be difficult. Although I think the layout is much more intuitive now. I still think brown is ok, perhaps I didn't make enough use of the whites which will be quite easy to fix. The whole reason for this change is to increase communication and visibility, so we aren't trying to fix something that is broken, we are just trying to improve upon the user experience. And the reason it is taking so long is because we are using a custom solution, rather than an already built script. This will add to our uniqueness factor. Quote
SYS65 Posted October 2, 2010 Posted October 2, 2010 I Made it with Corel PhotoImpact, Ok, when the time comes, and you want to try one of those designs, you just open the JPG and with the Eyedropper Tool, extract the exact color hex number. I tell you because a change of colors will literally "look" as the site is curretly being improved, kinda psycological good news. Many (maybe myself too) don't know how MUCH work is behind a site like that, only what they see, and if they see just brown brown brown, they critic just that. Quote

bob stole my cookie Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 I know the colors are not so important and can be changed quickly but..... I still don't like the browns. There is always that nifty function of allowing the user to select different skins. Making them is not the issue... that can always be done later. That being said, the brown is a nostalgia thing and since the majority of the older users are gone there's very little point in sticking with it. (I do like it though...) What irks me, as someone who splits her screen in half, is the fact that it doesn't scale at all horizontally and it doesn't offer me the option to scroll left or right. It scales horribly. This also sucks Quote
