jawoodruff Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 We are in the process of revamping the Masterclass Area to breathe new life into it. As many of you know, the masterclasses have not been updated in quite some time - in fact, the masterclasses there (All but one) are all devoted to orchestration and all have broken links and images in them. So, in order to custom the revitalization to the needs of the community as a whole - this is the place for you to state your ideas and views on what you would like to see there. Thanks! Quote
composerorganist Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 I saw your conversation with SSC. I'd advise let SSC do what he wants EXCEPT I ask he offers possible ways of applying core concepts of his discussions and analysis through comparison among composers or an example or two (nothing too specific). Realize that may not always be the intent and may even be beyond the scope of what SSC has time to do. Yet, I enjoy reading SSC's stuff (even if once in awhile I may not totally be in agreement) but sometimes I wonder how I can apply it to my writing. Quote
Tokkemon Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 I think an updated Orchestration one that hasn't been done by either Flint or QCC is in order. There are many different methods and studies on the subject. I'd love to share my own thoughts on the topic, I just am concerned about how much time I have to devote to it atm. I will keep it in consideration for the moment. Quote
SSC Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 I was thinking of doing something live, like with one of those sites that allow you to have webcam + chat. That'd be a lot cooler than just using the forum. Later the stuff would be logged in the forum, but I think that'd be much more dynamic. Specially if the topic is extensive. Or through skype? Or...? jrcramer Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 wow. good initiative I want to help, but atm time is a limiting factor... Quote
jawoodruff Posted March 18, 2010 Author Posted March 18, 2010 I actually recommended the use of Skype for lessons to someone before. I use Skype to carry out business meetings - so it definitely has it's uses. Jr: in what means, do you think you could help? Quote
Tokkemon Posted March 20, 2010 Posted March 20, 2010 Have a look here guys! http://forum.youngcomposers.com/t24019/orchestration-masterclass-revamp/ I'm redoing the orchestration masterclass. Quote
impresario Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 Do you think a score analysis class would be of use to anyone, or i that more something you'd do on your own or with one teacher as appose to a masterclass? For me though, not by me. I'm really of no use unless you want a concert band orchestration one since there are tiny differences, but tokkemon's should be fine. Quote

I think a score analysis class would be of tremendous use to a lot of the members on this site. Also, a concert band orchestration class would be a good thing as well. Quote
SSC Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 I'm on vacation and I have some free time to burn (and I'm in a great mood,) I'd be up to doing a workshop/masterclass on analysis and/or presentation. Just tell me what I have to do forum-wise and I'll do it. Quote
impresario Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 Great! Well first of all you'd have to find a score that we could all get a hold of and study, and one that is worth studying as well. I'd recommend the planets: http://ia341035.us.archive.org/1/items/Holst_ThePlanets/Holst_ThePlanets.pdf which I found in public domain so it would be completely legal (PD: http://www.archive.org/details/Holst_ThePlanets) I think forum-wise you'd have to create a masterclass thread, ask who's interested, describe what you were thinking of studying in particular or the class in general, and ask for suggestions? SSC Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 LOL I'm not going to do Holst. But I'll pick something out. :> Quote
Tokkemon Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 Also, a concert band orchestration class would be a good thing as well. I will be covering this in my masterclass too. Orchestration is not exclusive to just the orchestra despite its name. Quote
jawoodruff Posted March 28, 2010 Author Posted March 28, 2010 Other members too can create masterclasses Justin. Quote
