composerorganist Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 Man, if this picks up just MAYBE I can work 3/4 time versus full time at my non music job. Ok, first: May 16th - time TBA - location here http://www.gracechurchinnewark.org/. Joe is going to perform again one of my older compositions - Volcano for organ that day. He will have a really cool piece by Jonathan Dawe premiered which is based on musical fragments from Zipoli's organ works (a composer of Italian Renaissance organ music) as well as such gems as the Prelude and Fugue in G major of Bach and gorgeous Reger songs for organ and bass. Link to thread where I originally posted Volcano - http://forum.youngcomposers.com/t13972/solo-organ-work-from-new-member-hope-you-enjoy/ When I heard it recently I have to say isn't so great as I had thought ... oh well, still an entertaining recital piece. May 17th - time and location TBA but most likely downtown Manhattan, NYC and in the eve. A showcase of works by a composers consortium. I'll have Vanessa and Happiness songs I posted at YC last year performed. Happiness has been revised modestly, Vanessa very little. Vanessa http://forum.youngcomposers.com/t17614/vanessa-awakes-finished/ Happiness http://forum.youngcomposers.com/t24661/happiness-revised/ Quote
nikolas Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 Hey! Congrats. Hope to get around here a bit more from now on, and hope to get to listen to your works (read the scores, *ahem*). But big congrats on getting two of your works performed! Well done! Quote
composerorganist Posted April 14, 2010 Author Posted April 14, 2010 If you do have a chance the most recent piece that has gotten some good responses are the Capriccio and Final movement of my divertimento for string quartet (the Adagietto and First movement not as much. I consider the First movement the weakest)and a work I have completed the first section or movement Quote
composerorganist Posted April 15, 2010 Author Posted April 15, 2010 Ah for Nick - link to the quartet piece: http://forum.youngcomposers.com/t24517/divertimento%20for%20string%20quartet/ Quote
composerorganist Posted April 23, 2010 Author Posted April 23, 2010 UPDATE - For the performance of Happiness and Vanessa it will be at Stitch Bar 37th Street and 8th Ave May 17th starting 8 pm - not sure when my piece will come up and as these things start a little late I'd say performances will start closer to 8:30 pm. The performance again of Volcano will be at Grace Church IN Newark, 950 broad Street, Sunday May 16th 4 pm. And this time around I have the accurate times Quote
composerorganist Posted May 17, 2010 Author Posted May 17, 2010 Update - The May 16th went well of Volcano and the premiere of Jonathan Dawe's work Zipoli Automata was great. Imagine for the Dawe work a work the lovechild of Stravinsky, Ives and Frescobaldi. Anyway, hearing Volcano along with the work of a far more accomplished composer on a great French organ was interesting. Volcano sounded much better on the French Organ ( a Casavant - really Canadian) but I couldn't stand the highly sectional (ok, I'll say it disjunct) nature of the piece. I would not write that way again. Working on a new organ piece though. A strange fugue ... I'll post some sketches when my internet is back up. Quote
