ParanoidFreak Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 I was working on something, but I fear I just won't have enough time to finish it before the deadline... count me out :sadtears:
Weca Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 Has everyone forgotten about this awesome contest? Cmon people, upload your music. It can't be worse than what I just wrote in half an hour :D EDIT: SEE PAGE 6 FOR LATEST VERSION! 1
JijGaat Posted June 8, 2010 Author Posted June 8, 2010 Hey all, @ Weca: Thanks for competing and your entry. If you happen to have a score, please upload that too. Your picture made me laugh, haha. Thanks. @ Paranoidfreak: Too bad, though the deadline is the 20th of June, so you still have 12 days. If you could try making something that would be great ;) Greetz
ZachV Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 is that Hans Zimmer and the Sword of destiny supposed to come from Tenacious D and the Pick of destiny? lol probably not
ZachV Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 Here is mine http://www.youngcomposers.com/pg/Music/DerrickMDeadrockstudios/composition?entry=42702 I hope its acceptable to upload a .mus file for the score?
JijGaat Posted June 12, 2010 Author Posted June 12, 2010 Hey Guys, @ norby, ok you're in ;) @ th213x (thanks for entering! :))and DerrickMDeadrockstudios: thanks for your quick entries. I have listened to both, and was amused by your music :) Derrick: I am not able to open .mus files, and maybe other judges can't either (i use sibelius). If you use a program like cutepdf you can select it as a printer, and get a pdf file that way. There are several topics regarding this system of getting a score, and to be honest it is quite easy to get it working. If you could try to get a pdf file uploaded that would be great. Kind regards, Hugo
JijGaat Posted June 16, 2010 Author Posted June 16, 2010 Guys, Do not forget the deadline is June the 20th 23.59 GMT. I hope to see (and hear :)) many entries soon!
JijGaat Posted June 16, 2010 Author Posted June 16, 2010 Too bad :( The deadline is not supposed to induce this kind of comments ofcourse :(
olibrehm Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 Hey, just wanted to say my piece is ready, I just can't think of any title. Anyway you'll get it tomorrow with or without one ;)
JijGaat Posted June 16, 2010 Author Posted June 16, 2010 I am glad to hear that :P. I guess you should just look at a playlist of one of Zimmer's albums to come up with an (easy :P) title for your piece ^_^. For example, if your piece features a duduk: call it Duduk of the south, haha." The battle of ..." will do very well too, but I guess I can't help you too much if I haven't heard your music yet.
PhRey Posted June 17, 2010 Posted June 17, 2010 Hey ! I've just arrived, and I did not even presented, but I want to encouage this contest and greet you! Here is mine, shipmates : http://www.youngcomposers.com/pg/Music/PhRey/composition?entry=43760 See you, Phil
JijGaat Posted June 17, 2010 Author Posted June 17, 2010 Hey! Thanks for competing and for your entry, It really sounds bombastic ^_^. If you happen to have a score, please upload that too :). More detailed comments to all the pieces entered will be posted when we announce the winner! Greetz, Hugo
olibrehm Posted June 17, 2010 Posted June 17, 2010 Still no title (I tried to find something related to "Hoist the Colours" which is featured at the beginning, but......) Anyway here it is: Hans Zimmer competition entry PhRey, liked your piece very much! I'm curious who's gonna win this ;)
nemesis Posted June 17, 2010 Posted June 17, 2010 I can remember an interview with Hans Zimmer .. "What would you guess young composers?" ... -> "Don't imitate anyone and try to create your own language" ;)
JijGaat Posted June 17, 2010 Author Posted June 17, 2010 Hey Oliver, Thanks for your entry, I enjoyed listening to it :) @ nemesis: Haha, kinda ironic is this competition then :P But I think I do not have to agree with him entirely. To make better music yourself you have to understand techniques and tricks. The best way to learn them is to first just try and copy them, or study scores of composers and then later on you can use your own techniques. I think at the end everyone copies everyone. It is just one way of looking at it. greetz
PhRey Posted June 17, 2010 Posted June 17, 2010 I can remember an interview with Hans Zimmer .. "What would you guess young composers?" ... -> "Don't imitate anyone and try to create your own language" ;) And i think you are (he is) right :) . But also, there are so much things to learn in imitating (Mozart is still imitated - and unequaled). Of course we all have to create our own language, but sometimes it can take many years... (in imitating !) I did this song to exorcise the Pirate in me. It is clear that, we 'young" composers, have been under the Zimmer influence. And maybe we are still under influence (the same thing with john Williams and his Star wars Symphonie, Howard shore and his LOTR... etc.. etc...). I thought that if i could do it once and for all, it would get out of my soul ! And that's what happened ! (ho sorry Hugo, i can't give you any score because i'm not reading or writing music at all ! ;) ) Thank you for you comments, Phil
abd_zibdeh Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 im out sorry , i was supposed to compose it after my finals , but i had to travel for a week , so i didnt have time , and i came back yesterday:S . good luck for all of you guys!
NBergman Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 I'm gonna try competing - although I just started working on a piece for the competition today (and a little bit the other night), so I might not get it in on time. But I'll try! :)
JijGaat Posted June 18, 2010 Author Posted June 18, 2010 that's why i made the deadline at the end of sunday (people in europe that is). I am curious about your entries. @ phrey, ok, that does not matter, but it will lose you some points in your score when judging your piece.

It's ok for me Hugo ;o) (the most important is to discuss, share, critique, progress.. isn't it ;o)
