Black Orpheus Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 I play jazz, but my instrument's sax, not piano. Quote
The J Posted May 10, 2010 Author Posted May 10, 2010 my bad blacko, i thought i saw a youtube link of you playing jazz piano. Quote
John Axon Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 I play piano in my school's jazz band but but I'm not a comfortable improviser. I comp decently, but that's only half of the equation. -John Quote
The J Posted May 10, 2010 Author Posted May 10, 2010 i like the way the commercials work when jazz is the topic :) Quote
Guest John Pax Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 I was first Jazz guitar all through High school, always enjoyed jazz music and it was a quality group. Quote
impresario Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 I play in my school's jazz band but but I'm not a comfortable improviser. This. I'm first tenor sax, sharing my first solo this thursday! It's a page and it repeats - way too long for someone who has not soloed before! Quote
RagtimeMax Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 I can play, write and improvise stride piano, so I guess that counts! I am one, guitarist. robin jessome(bone i presume) is two. black orpheos(piano) is three.. any others here???? Don't be shy!! i'm talking about jazz players meaning someone who can improvise on most standard jazz tunes with relative easiness. Quote
Black Orpheus Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 I can play, write and improvise stride piano, so I guess that counts! Heck yeah, it counts! Bryla is another killer pianist. Quote
The J Posted May 11, 2010 Author Posted May 11, 2010 wow this is even better :) the band of jazz improvisers we got so far: 1.guitar X2 2.saxophone X2 3.piano X1.5? 4. bone ahh no bass/drums well, i'll wait a little more Quote
The J Posted May 12, 2010 Author Posted May 12, 2010 wow phant you are a jazz drummer, awesome! guys i'll be planning somkind of collaboration, where everyone gets to say something, i need to figure out how to make it not cumbersome for the listener with so many soloists, there are actually a number of options. who among you DON'T have a decent recorder to record your instrument? Quote
PhantomOftheOpera Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 wow phant you are a jazz drummer, awesome! guys i'll be planning somkind of collaboration, where everyone gets to say something, i need to figure out how to make it not cumbersome for the listener with so many soloists, there are actually a number of options. who among you DON'T have a decent recorder to record your instrument? Well I play mainly pop, but thats mostly it, I can improvise jazzy with no problem. Quote
Black Orpheus Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 who among you DON'T have a decent recorder to record your instrument? Unfortunately I do not. I just have the mic that came built-in with my laptop. Quote

The J Posted May 13, 2010 Author Posted May 13, 2010 i should've asked that on the main post, in anycase we've got: recordable: 1.me-guitar 2.mulligan-guitar(confirmation) 2.bryla-piano 3.john axon-piano 4.ragtimemax-piano 5.phantom-drums 6.impersario-sax(confirmation) unrecordables: 7.jessome-bone 8.black orpheos-sax ---- waiting on confirmations. PhantomOftheOpera Posted May 13, 2010 Posted May 13, 2010 yeah, i can record... well you won't get acoustics, really hard to get a decent recording of acoustic drums in home enviroment, I'll do it with my E-Kit. Ohh yeah, I have a band-mate, he's an awesome bass player, really into jazz, maybe he can do some bass for us. Quote
The J Posted May 14, 2010 Author Posted May 14, 2010 i really really like the sound of acoustic bass for jazz, in any case i have to think of a clever way to make a virtual way of playing jazz since its real time communication and not track recordings. Quote
impresario Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 I have one but I don't think it's very good, I'll have to try it. Quote
