Peter_W. Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 This type of music to me can be the most evocative of traditional formats; I love it because it has the somberness and emotion of an elegies and the passion of an appassionata. What makes for a good nocturne? Piano or otherwise. Thanks! Quote
xrsbit Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 I think you need to be able to come up with a great melody to make a good nocturne. I'm thinking about piano nocturnes, btw. Quote
Silva Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 I think a good nocturne should give the sense of tranquility and flood the listener with the own feelings of the night. To give an example: For me a good nocturne would be the Opus 9 no. 1 of Chopin, which manages to convey a kind of dark tranquility, while the Opus 9 no. 2 is more like a romantic song. Another good example of what should be a nocturne for mi would be the so called "Night Music" by Bartok. Greetings. Quote
