MariusChamberlin Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 I'm looking for someone to help me with music theory and composition. I want to strengthen my knowledge of both, as well as be tested on what I learn, as currently I feel that while I am doing some learning and what not on my own, I feel that if I had someone to guide me along throughout the composition process, as well as being able to test me on what I learn, it would help to cement concepts into my brain. Also, I'm looking for someone who shares the same interests musically as I do to some extent. I am no enthusiast of anything modern. Mostly anything later than the Mid-Romantic period is too "modern" for me. (with some exceptions of course, but as a general rule that's what I like.) For me the late Baroque to Early/Mid Romantic is where my tastes lie. I especially love Beethoven, so the styles of his day would sync with me greatly. I hope I'm not being too picky, but I believe it's crucial to find someone that can help me find my own voice as a composer, and help me to make the kind of music that I myself love. Quote
bkho Posted August 27, 2010 Posted August 27, 2010 I would hardly qualify as a teacher of either (I do have a degree in music but I would consider myself at best a devoted amateur) but I would be happy to provide advice. We share very similar interests in regards to tastes in music and I also try to emulate a romantic style in my own music. Quote
J. Lee Graham Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 If I didn't suck as a teacher, I'd want to help you because you're interested in the basically the same period in music history as I am (I'm a lifelong Classical-Revivalist). Unfortunately, even 40 years of experience doesn't necessarily mean that I can teach others what I just innately know how to do. Good luck, and let us hear your stuff! If you ever want me to look at something and offer feedback, just give me a jingle! Quote
