MariusChamberlin Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 I'm starting a duet for two friends of mine; one who plays the violin and the other who plays the cello. At the same time I'm trying to teach myself some "basic" counterpoint, so I figure this would be a good oportunity to give myself a sort of "test" at writing in that style. I really like listening to Baroque music, especially Vivaldi and Bach. Anyways so I'm trying to come up with a suitable starting theme to base the first movement on. I've read a few resources on the "rules" of Baroque melody writing, and so trying to follow those the best I could, I came up with the following: (Ignore the red note; I used Noteflight to write that out, and I guess I left it highlighted.) I would like some advice on this theme as far as do you think it's something that I can supports itself as a main component of this movement? Does it violate any norms of the Baroque style? Any other stylistic suggestion or things you think I could improve? Quote
semotivo Posted October 20, 2010 Posted October 20, 2010 hi i have been - as a hobbyist- thinking the question, how to develop good melody. i don't have much knowledge about baroque style but i have some suggestions to make the melody more rythmical which i wrote to midi file here. i don't even know are these all allowed in baroque music, but it makes the articulation of melody better.
