Madman3123 Posted September 26, 2010 Posted September 26, 2010 "Daniel McKenna is a UK based composer, who by constantly learning and expanding his musical horizons is able to write in a variety of styles from: synthesiser based works such as ambient and dance, to classical ensembles such as string quartets and brass right the way to a rock line up. Due to this and a strong knowledge of music theory Daniel is not only able to write music in these genres but music that is a combination of all these genres creating a thoroughly unique musical experience that will add emotional clarity and depth to any visual media." Right so I'm breaking into the scary world of composing and I'm stumped on writing a bio. Would this do or is it too short? Also heres my logo. ALL feedback is appreciated  Quote
Audiosprite Posted September 26, 2010 Posted September 26, 2010 I can't really read your last name quickly in the logo, so my mind just reverts you to "Dave McKean." :P Quote
Madman3123 Posted September 26, 2010 Author Posted September 26, 2010 Thats probably not too great as my name is daniel mckenna did you click on the pic to get it full size? Quote
Audiosprite Posted September 26, 2010 Posted September 26, 2010 Thats probably not too great as my name is daniel mckenna did you click on the pic to get it full size? Just did, and while that makes it better it's still not too easy to see with just a glance. *shrug* Quote
DSCH Posted September 26, 2010 Posted September 26, 2010 I've always wondered why people write bios in the 3rd person haha... No offence intended, but when when you've written it yourself it seems a tad silly to me. :) Quote
Audiosprite Posted September 26, 2010 Posted September 26, 2010 on the other hand i am dumb, so maybe other people will get it ¯\(º o)/¯ Quote
roy Posted September 26, 2010 Posted September 26, 2010 I agree. It sounds pretty pretentious to me when people write like that about themselves. If someone wrote about you, like in a review or something, than yeah sure use that if you want to. Why not just be your own humble, honest self when writing about... yourself? A bio is just an addition to your works right, not the main thing one is focussed on when searching for a composer. You can have the best bio in the world, but if you write crappy music people will find out soon enough. I would say, just write something you think people will enjoy reading. Give them the necessary info without exaggerating. You can euphemize and polish things up all you want, just don't lie ;) - as to length, idk. Maybe add some info what makes you unique in a less general way? Why are you the best? I think you should approach this just as writing an application letter. The logo I did not like. Not clear enough, and it looks a bit cheap (no offense, but it kinda does). :) Quote
Madman3123 Posted September 27, 2010 Author Posted September 27, 2010 The bio is in third person because when advertising yourself like in a bio people apparently trust third person though as they assume it was wrote by someone else. I have one on my site already which is just: "My name is Daniel McKenna I am 17 still in education and wish to become a soundtrack composer for video games when I am older. Currently to help myself build up experience and a portfolio I am offering my music already written and yet to be written for any developers of free online games or anyone else who may want it. I am willing to work below industry rates and will even consider working for free if the project interests me enough." However I did feel as my bio is going to be on a site of someone I will work with I need to spruce it up a bit  Another idea for a logo is attached to this post btw Quote
jrcramer Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 I do not see the need for a logo, but I thought the last was really nice. Looks classy Quote
Madman3123 Posted September 27, 2010 Author Posted September 27, 2010 Well the logo is cause the designer of the site I'm getting my link on has picture links so its a pic of me or a logo and I'm more comfortable with a logo Quote
Nyu001 Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 The feather and ink are too detailed. It would work better if was simplified. The objects are telling me that you are a writer rather that a composer. Is it the image a stock one? Try to find a creative idea that makes your logo feel unique and that tells us that you are a composer or musician . A logo sends a message and identify you. Quote
