chopin Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 I will work on a new banner to simplify it. As far as the moving up and down portion of the banner, I'm doing this so that we save real estate, because of the new fixed headers. I think the fixed headers will help people navigate the site better, since a user can upload from the nav bar. I've added the functionality to track views. Views do not count guests or spider bots, so these are "true" views. Downloads don't make sense any longer due to streaming, and multi part attachments. The feed of recently uploaded works is something I'm not sure how I'm going to execute yet. I've put a "submissions" tab in the nav, which kind of acts like this feed, and the homepage will display "NEW" in red, for each new submission for the past day. As far as moving the forum to the homepage, I've thought about it, but I think leaving the homepage free for custom design is better. I am going to be integrating this site with my video game website as soon as I am done with its design. The thinking is to have composers here sign up for competitions to various video games and rewrite themes, etc. The functionality may or may not be located on the homepage, as I haven't begun to design this yet Quote

If not to get rid of the banner altogether, can there be the option to fix to the top instead of dropping down every time we go to the top of the page? One objection I have to the Submissions list is that there isn't any information besides a partial title: composer's names aren't on it, nor the most recent responders. Another is that it takes up an entire line to itself. This might be fixed by moving it up, but as it is it takes away from a fuller view of the page and makes it seem more closed and claustrophobic (the same can be said about the drop-down banner) - and otherwise seems unnecessary. A more complete feed alongside other feeds of site activity would be nicer. 1 Quote

This was true of the last site as well. All I wanted was the forum so I made my bookmark go directly to the forum. One less click to annoy me with. Quote
chopin Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 There is actually a feed of latest uploads on the homepage towards the bottom. I took the feed off the forum as to give more room to view regular topics. I have more options to get creative with the homepage with our current setup, which could be used as a portal of some sort. For example, I was thinking about adding something along the lines of "shouting" a piece for review, but only if the user had x reviews, and y posts. I can now do this easily. For every x reviews and y posts, user z will obtain one shout for a review. The review will stay static until someone has reviewed the piece, then drop off allowing room for other shouts. This should help increase reviews, and also help encourage activity in the forum again. This is just a thought, development on something like this would actually be pretty easy. Quote
Sonataform Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Is there a way to search for music on the site by the members screen name? Quote
chopin Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Is there a way to search for music on the site by the members screen name? Yes, very easy. Navigate here, and type in the name of the member under "search name" on the left of the nav. 1 Quote
Stirling_Radliff Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Profile editing doesn't seem to be working. Also, is there a way to turn off the notice beep that comes on whenever someone says something in the shoutbox? Quote

chopin Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 You can see the views when you click on the music piece. It's where the description is located. Quote
luderart Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 (edited) You can see the views when you click on the music piece. It's where the description is located. Yeah, I realized that. However, all the information about views, downloads, and number of stars of all compositions uploaded before the site was renovated are no longer available. Would it be possible to still recover that information? If not, it is a pity since it provided valuable information about YC's audience's reactions to everyone's pieces, a different kind of feedback from that of the reviews. Now we may never be able to know what was the most viewed piece before this new site commenced! Edited February 9, 2014 by luderart Quote
pateceramics Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 Urgg… Can't figure out how to add a youtube clip. Am I missing something? I click on the button for add MP3, Midi, Youtube. I am supposed to be typing a Title of Piece__blahdeblah1047.yt thing, but where do I type that? There is no text box to put it in. I only seem to have the option of browsing for MP3 or Midi. No text box to make a link for youtube that I can see, just an option to click to browse my files. Hmmm… In related news, it's slightly disconcerting to add an MP3 or Midi, and then nothing shows up to show that it worked on the page you are editing. You don't see anything until you have submitted the entire form, with the piece description and all the sub categorizations and it is all done. When you actually do that step of adding the MP3 or Midi, nothing appears. So you don't know that you did it correctly. Quote
Austenite Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 I tried to post a link to my newest piece - and rather than just adding the link in the old-fashioned way, it offers a dialogue of options in which my input seems to be ignored... and causes everything to freeze. Result: I can no longer add a link. Quote

Austenite Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 There's a number of minor, if still annoying, glitches everywhere. Most noticeable: most of the links I placed before the site's update appear to be broken (usually showing error messages rather than the desired destination). Also, in multi-movement works the movements tend to be played in the wrong order (case in point: my own Adriana's Suite - the fourth and fifth movements are played in reversed order. Same thing with my String Serenade). Other issues: I can no longer track the number of times my works are downloaded. And also, a lot of my replies to other people's reviews of my works are truncated. Quote

Sonataform Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 I was wondering the same thing about linking youtube videos never mind I figured it out. When you're at the youtube page go to "file" "save as..." and then adjust the file name. That worked for me 1 Quote
pateceramics Posted February 22, 2014 Posted February 22, 2014 Ah ha! Well, that's awkward. Thanks. Quote
TheBandGeek Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 I can't add the MP3. When I drop, it says completed. So I exit, but then afterward, when loading page, it shows file but has no content. Just 0:00 Seconds and a 1 second moment of playing nothing. Quote

p7rv Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 Feature request: please allow browsing a user's forum posts and compositions to happen on the same page/ interface, I am always doing the wrong one with no clear way to navigate to the other Quote
Aiwendil Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 (edited) I don't seem to be able to upload files. Perhaps I'm doing something foolish. I click on "Add/Remove MP3s, MIDIs, or YT Links", a dialogue box comes up, I click on "Add File", and select the file I want. It appears to be uploading; I see the file name and a progress bar. But when it reaches 100%, it appears to hang. Same thing happens for the .pdf of the score. If I then click "Submit", my post for the piece shows up, but there are no audio files or scores. I've tried this in Firefox, Chrome, and IE with the same results. Can anyone help? Edited March 19, 2016 by Aiwendil Quote

Ken320 Posted May 11, 2016 Posted May 11, 2016 Update Required To play the media you will need to either update your browser to a recent version or update your Flash plugin. Cannot upload an Mp3. What is this? I am up. to. date. Could this be any more cryptic? Quote
