composerorganist Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 Performance this past Sunday of Bach's In Dulce Jubilio (I believe BWV 729). The wobble in the sound is from the recorder - the pastor recorded i t and I am unsure what model. Recording organ music can be tricky. Anyway, took a few liberties with the tempo but I like my interpretation. I just wish I had been able to get a coaching from my organ teacher- just had one from my piano teacher. http://www.box.net/shared/2d6pk9jgk4 Would like to hear some reactions from keyboardists - especially those versed in Baroque keyboard music. Tokkemon Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 Overall a good performance. I think a slightly more adventurous registration could have been used, but organ limitations are of course problems in that department. My only qualm technically is sometimes the articulation of the lines are a bit uneven. But that's a small matter. Quote
composerorganist Posted December 15, 2010 Author Posted December 15, 2010 Thanks Tokke for the thoughtful comments. Question regarding the articulations - do you have anything specific that comes to mind? I ask as the runs in the free sections were meant at times to be a little free - with variance in articulations and some rubato. Was the uneveness heard within phrases or between two phrases? Quote
Tokkemon Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 It was more within phrases. Like when you had scalar passages going up, it should be uniformly getting louder and (possibly) more legato as you rise in the phrase, for example. There can be variation, but it should be consistent in this style. Quote
composerorganist Posted December 15, 2010 Author Posted December 15, 2010 Ah, I see. Interesting as I did not touch the swell pedal to create a crescendo - figured you can create a sense of crescendo thru variane of articulation. But your approach is definitely something I should check with my teachers (they have been so busy I had just one coaching with my piano teacher on this!) Quote
jrcramer Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 I would advise against crescendi using swell pedal in baroque music. Unless you like fancy things like bach on saxophone, or monteverdi on theremin... 1 Quote
