MariusChamberlin Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 One piece my fellows. If you had to pick a SINGLE piece (if it's a multi movement work then pick a single movement) to be played at your funeral, what would it be? Happy, sad, triumphant, depressed, WHATEVER! What would you choose if you could have ANYTHING played at your funeral? I'll start things off. Cliche as it is, I would have to have the "Ode to Joy" played at my funeral. The whole thing too, not some dumbed down, childhood whistling version either. It's such a beautiful piece, I'd think I'd want the attendees to remember me by it. I realize this is both extremely unrealistic and somewhat arrogant, but hey it's hypothetical. Your turn. Quote

Tokkemon Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 Mahler 2. Or something I wrote myself. Quote
Ink Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 The Crisis - Ennio Morricone or (and I know I'm cheating here) Salvation is Created - Pavel Chesnokov or (and now I'm really cheating) Shenandoah - Frank Ticheli I honestly can't choose between those, but I'll make sure that I have a LONG funeral so that they can all fit in lol Quote
jrcramer Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 Schnittkes nagasaki cantata, bhahaha Quote
Mockingjay Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 I think I would like to have Chopin's Nocturne in C minor. Or maybe his "Raindrop" prelude. Or maybe "The Breaking of the Fellowship," by Howard Shore (Lord of the Rings). Or maybe Jupiter by Holst. Or maybe... So many songs to choose from, only one funeral... =P Anyway, I suppose that when I become a more skilled composer, I will probably compose a song or two that would be fitting for my funeral. Quote
John Axon Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 Cool topic! I'd want them to play Chopin's Prelude in E minor, Rachmaninoff's Second Piano Concerto, Second Movement, and then Blackbird by The Beatles to cheer them up. I can choose 3 right? =P -John Quote
Malexos Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 Without a doubt, .Quite possibly the most beautiful song I've ever heard for all it's simplicity. Max Richter did a wonderful job. ^^ And when the violin comes in with the high-pitched half notes, I can barely keep my eyes dry :( I'd hire a quintet myself if I had to. Quote
SYS65 Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 The Requiem I shall write for myself, what else ? Quote
Subcurrent Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 The Requiem I shall write for myself, what else ? Hahaha! That's exactly what I was thinking! However, on a more serious note, I would want the actual Ode to Joy as the original poster had said. It's just so beautiful and Beethoven's 9th is my favorite work anyways, so why not!? Other than the OP thinking that it's "cliche" I have yet to find anything more simply beautiful than this! Quote
SYS65 Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 Well, if my future Requiem can't be performed because everybody runs scared away :P I can set as 2nd option the St.Mathew Passion Aria "Erbarme Dich" has one of the most beautiful and profound Violin parts ever composed, and sung by a beautiful Alto Voice, (a mature woman please, NO childs) Quote
bryla Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 I guess if I weren't to write something in my lifetime that surpasses it, then Barber's Adagio for Strings. Quote
ChsBt0ne Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 The 1812 Overture. When I go, I wanna go amidst cannon fire. :phones: Quote
SYS65 Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 1812 Overture ? hahaha, oook, play " " for me :P Quote
Berlioz Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 The Benny Hill Theme. The Requiem I shall write for myself, what else ? Or this. Quote
composerorganist Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 Don't Believe The Hype by Public Enemy Or if I am a little serious Brahmn's the whole 3rd Symphony ... yes they would have to make a choice between either or to sit thru. Quote
