giselle Posted June 23, 2006 Posted June 23, 2006 I got an email from a band director at a college (a former band director of mine) who said he might be interested in programming something I write over the next year or two, either something for band or for a Chamber Winds (he capitalized it?) group. I was curious about how you might interpret that. I know what chamber music is in general, but is there a particular instrumentation for "Chamber Winds"? Is it like a larger scale version of a classical wind quintet - flute, oboe, clarinet, horn, and bassoon? Or could that mean something else? I am going to email back to clarify but I wanted to run it by you all first to see if you had any input. I would think it could vary from group to group but you never know. Quote
J. Lee Graham Posted June 23, 2006 Posted June 23, 2006 That could be almost anything, I'm pretty sure. Sounds like a group of wind players between a standard chamber group (such as a woodwind quintet) and a concert band. Such a group would probably play pieces like Mozart's Gran Partita, a serenade for 13 wind instruments. If I were you, I'd ask him specifically what forces he has at his disposal in the group. Quote
giselle Posted June 23, 2006 Author Posted June 23, 2006 good plan, thanks. I just didn't want to feel foolish if there was something I didn't know about :) Quote
