ShadyCat Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 Hello I'm currently working on a game project for the PC with a group of other programmers and artists, but we haven't got anyone to composer the music. I'm not asking for a full soundtrack, just 1 single track. The main title theme. We can take care of the rest, but the main title theme needs to be the most appealing, which is why I'm seeking professional help. If you're interested, please PM me. I'll provide more details. Thank you very much for your time. Quote
bryla Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 I would like to mention the unethical point that ShadyCat told me, that the game is going to be sold and not given away as freeware, still they won't pay a percentage to the composer nor money up-front. Quote
immortallismusica Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 can you give some info about the game? maybe if you have some images and/or videos? PM me =) Quote
Emanon Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 yep. if you tell us the topic of the game we may help you. But without any information we can't even check our older works for fitting songs or melodies. Greetings Quote
Salemosophy Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 Since you posted this in the wrong forum, I took the liberty of moving this to where it belongs. Yes, if you don't have a member of your team that is qualified to produce an acceptable title theme to your game, and the members of your team all agree your game needs original music, then you should be prepared to offer compensation for that work, even if it has already been written by one of our members. This is simply good business practice to start with... but it's something your entire team should be prepared to contribute to so the bulk of the amount is not left up to one individual. It could be less than $100 for some forms of licensing. That is all up to the discretion of the composer and what you negotiate in private. I have plenty of minutes worth of music that you're free to listen to and decide if any of that will work for your game. Licensing for this kind of request can be worked out through any number of methods - I recommend an annually renewable non-exclusive licensing arrangement. This way, if you decide your game needs different music after development is finished, you don't need to pay more than what you need. This is also nice because you can always make a request at a later date for an exclusive licensing arrangement for the music if your game takes off and brings in sufficient revenue to justify further development. I think it's time for YC to have some kind of tutorial for non-composers seeking help from members here. If I have time, I might put something like this together. Quote
th213x Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 I don't think any one is going to spend hours of their time composing a song for a game and be the only one that does not get a slice of the profit. Some might gladly volunteer to do it if the game is freeware and non-profit. Quote
skyy38 Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 Let's see-one post...."PM Me..." vague details on WHAT kind of music...wants that music for free... Does anyone else smell something? Quote
siwi Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 Also the fact that the OP hasn't bothered to reply to this thread for nearly three months - whether fraudulent or bad business practice or not, they obviously don't care that much about it... Quote
