Ferkungamabooboo Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 I know nothing of presentational notation, and have been stringing someone along for a score of one of my works. Is there anything truly glaring? I mean more ofr spacing and that sort of thing, not the lack of dynamics, that sort of thing. Please rip through this PDF, give me pointers, tips, no duh comments. I know nothing about this sort of thing. If there's anything to say, say it :P Piece for Western Gamelan.pdf PDF Piece for Western Gamelan Quote
Black Orpheus Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 Mmmm, notation. Page 1: quarter = 80 should be at the top of the page. All of your whole rests look odd - the rests should be in the middle of the measures. Between 49 and 50 the top tie should be flipped in the second "vibra." part (a similar thing happens many times in the piece). Oh, here's a big thing... Starting on page 3 the beaming is unnatural in the second vib. part. You want to make sure that every beat is clear. So, in measure 40, staff 2, for example, what you should have instead is this: Now every beat is clear to the performer. Measures 76 to 82 (and later rhythmically related sections) are going to be tricky to perform I think, and 77 is just weird looking (it must be the notation program). Sometimes your notes get scrunched (like in the very last system). Careful about that. Also related instruments get bracketed together, if you have related instruments. Quote
bryla Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 Hey there - In the bottom vibra part, I would consequently use A-flat instead of G-sharp. The tonality is clearer and the bitonality is clearer. From 29 I would use an octave line on the second to bottom vibra. Number the vibraphone parts. If they are all the same, you can't tell who is to play what, when you take away the empty staves. First and top note of bar 77 should be D-sharp, and generally don't mix flats and sharp per part in a piece like this. So the tubular bell also plays A-flat Quote
