Glassy Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 (sorry if this is not the right forum) I realize a lot of people upload their works to this site (score and all), and I don't know what position these works are in (copyright, published, etc.). Is it safe to upload an un-published work here? Is there any privacy against non-YC users? I'm not so much wary of someone using my work (that I don't care of). I don't want someone stealing it and claiming it as their own. Uploading unpublished scores and midi representations seems a good way to have this happen, does it not? Didn't see anything on this skimming through searches. Thanks Quote
Black Orpheus Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 Copyright law is really tricky. If you create a score of your composition and upload it to the internet, then you have technically self-published. In most countries, the score and audio would be automatically protected under copyright laws as soon as they come into existence. I really wouldn't worry about the concerns you expressed (as long as you only post your own works); any time you post something on the internet you run the risk of having someone else claim your ideas as their own. As far as privacy goes, I believe you have to be logged into YC in order to view and listen to compositions on the site. Quote
