Hello everybody!

I'm in highschool and I had this huge project where I could basically do anything I want as long as it's something that interests me, and it's big. So I decided to do a composition project where I would compose around ten songs, but the only problem is that I can't just do music because too many people were doing that, so I decided to have the music help Haiti in some way. I considered selling my music, but there's just one problem, I suck at that, and I also considered just dedicating it to Haiti but I feel like that's a lazy way out. So I talked to my band teacher and he suggested I come to a forum like this one. So does anyone have any advice, about any other way I could help Haiti with this music, or possibly any advice in marketing? any advice about anything would be greatly appreciated.

There are sites like http://www.kickstarter.com/ that let you raise money; alternatively putting on a benefit show is possible.

Is this a project to actually be done? Or just to be planned?

Selling anything is about a target audience. Who do you think would try to help Haiti? What kinds of language would you use to entice them to your project?

Perform the music in a fundraising concert? If you could get some Haitian musicians to do part of the set, that would attract people from 'their' fan base and make the point clearer. It would probably be on a more local scale - not that that means little interest, especially if you got the school and local churches and whatnot involved - unless you have nay big names lined up.

On a different tack, since you're already set up in a high school, why not try and do something that involves the school, using as many people as possible? You've already got a venue, an audience, and you know roughly what resources you have in instrumentalists and equipment. How specific is the brief for this project? Do you get any kind of funding or external help?

First of all, thanks for the website, and yes, it is going to be seriously done. and the project simply states, "do you what you're interested in", that's it XD, so it's very vague. I also have until mid-May to finish, and that's around two months from now. I've thought about doing a fundraising event but I'm worried that no one will come, and also, one of them is a concert band piece and my personal Concert band is on vacation right now. But I can perform some of the music, I think the fundraiser event thing is possible. And I don't get any funding, but we are all assigned a mentor who will help guide us through the entire process, and my mentor is also the band teacher, and he was the one who told me to come here.
