I hope someone hasn't already done this. Anyway, they were all composed in the summer of 1775 (we think 1 might've been composed in '73), so there isn't an enormous amount of stylistic evolution, but I'm curious as to what people's preferences are, seeing as they're really brilliant concerti.

I find it very difficult to believe that all of the violin concerti were composed in '75, and I'm not alone (there's quite a bit of growth between the 2nd and 3rd). That being said, I've always found the first two to be sort of bland; the 3rd concerto is my favorite by far. Dat pizzicato interlude in the Rondo gets me errtime.

I like them all, really. But if I were to chose of this list - I'd say #4.

Also, I want to add that my favorite concerto (featuring the violin) is the symphonie concertante for violin and viola! An absolutely amazing concertante!!!

Five, the 'Turkish', is absolutely wonderful. Of course I'm slightly biased because I've had the pleasure of playing it twice in the orchestra accompanying a good friend, she's a brilliant ex-RAM graduate who plays it fantastically well. But apart from its wit and wonderful melodic invention, the finale is also an astonishingly innovative piece of writing. Who's not afraid of the Turks hammering at the gates of Vienna?
