Hi Yc!

This is about intervals! Which are your favorites, and why?

For me, it's maj. 2nd, perfect 4ths and 5ths, major and minor 7ths, and major 9ths (which is really a 2nd now isn't it?) because I like that "open" sound they have.

I like that too. I like to call it a "harmonic 2nd." :)

As far as motion goes, I like the motion of a perfect 5th even better than that, though.

As far as block sonority, I like the major 9th and minor 2nd. Hard to decide.

(it's cool, Heckle)

It certainly is different. Functionally, a +5 is either a stable interval or tending UPward to resolve to a major 7th. A b6 tends downward in the manner of the minor mode.

In the same way, minor 3rd is stable while +2 is tending upward (or down :P)

But then again, if we were to be completely thorough, we'd have to include all of these:

unison

augmented unison (.5)

minor 2nd (.5)

major 2nd (1)

augmented 2nd (1.5)

diminished 3rd (1)

minor 3rd (1.5)

major 3rd (2)

augmented 3rd (2.5)

diminished 4th (2)

perfect 4th (2.5)

augmented 4th (3)

et freakin' cetera.

But since it's been nominated, may as well as the +6. *laughs*

Since I first heard Varèse's Déserts I'm in deep love with major 9ths. I could do intimate things with them all day (and night) long!

I also like perfect 11ths and double-octaves.

Augmented 4th/diminished 5th, augmented 5th, major 9th, augmented 11th. As you can probably tell, I tend to gravitate toward "jazz" harmonies, though my music doesn't really sound much at all like jazz; I just love the lush, misty tonal ambiguity that one can create with such harmonies.

i think you can check what's your favourite interval by just playing each interval in different pitches.

for me 9th are cheesy(message in a bottle) and 10th are like beatles/blackbird, but major 7th in different pitches sounds wicked-check out 7:42 where the guitarist plays major 7ths descending in whole tones, sounds awesome:

I love upward leaps of a minor ninth. You can get a cool klangfarbenmelodie effect by giving each pitch to instruments with contrasting tone qualities.

My favorite intervals are the minor fifth, acute fifth, and nuetral second.

You really should have an 'other' option.

I hate to ask, but what is an acute fifth and a neutral second?

The "other" option can be put up, but it generally changes all the votes, so I don't think I can do that.... but I can try

IF IT HAPPENS I AM VERY SORRY!!!
