gman123 Posted April 21, 2011 Posted April 21, 2011 Hi I have some bars of music I have written which I would like to make into an arrangement / song. I need some help on how to do this. Foe example how long should a phrase be? What kind of structure do I need to layout, what sections do I need in an arrangement? Please can you help?? Many Thanks Quote
xrsbit Posted April 21, 2011 Posted April 21, 2011 Your post is a bit vague I'm afraid. Arrangement for what instrument(s)? What kind of music is this? There is no rule for how long a phrase should be. You said you already have some bars written down. Follow that. Arrangements can have any kind of structure. Asking what kind of structure an arrangement has to have is like asking what key should a piano piece be in. Quote
gman123 Posted April 21, 2011 Author Posted April 21, 2011 I guess im trying find a good starting point to build on. I am look at more of a classical feel, not like a modern song ie intro verse chorus etc. Does that help :veryunsure: Quote

gman123 Posted April 23, 2011 Author Posted April 23, 2011 some bars on classical guitar. Is it write to say that you would compose for one instrument then add accompanying instruments next? Quote
siwi Posted April 24, 2011 Posted April 24, 2011 I'm afraid what you're asking is to be taught how to create, something that cannot be done. I could point you towards several books that would help, but the best thing is probably to buy a Spotify day pass and LISTEN to as much classical music as possible. Then do the same the next day (possibly subscribing to Spotify or buying records might be a better option actually) and keep doing this until you have a basic understanding of how the elements of a composition are put together and you can make your own. Then post it in the forum to get criticism. Quote
