jrcramer Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 I am working on a chamber symphony. And I would like some feedback on the balance of the following instrumentation: 3133.4100.xyl.44442 Another issue that slightly concerns me is the fact that I choose triple woodwind (including 1 picc, bass-cla, and ctr.bsn.). I have planned that I will need them, but it feels like it counteracts the idea of a chamber-orchestra. any thoughts? Quote
Tokkemon Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 Yeah, it seems very large for a *chamber* orchestra. The only thing really "chamber-like" about it is the lack of strings. Though I think the triple woodwinds is a novel feature I haven't seen with that few number of strings before. So cool! Quote

I have been thinking to remove the oboe and the trumpet, but felt that would I would miss those sounds too much. Another alternative has been to call for 3 trombones in stead of 4 horns, still not sure though... Quote
Tokkemon Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 Three trombones can make way more noise than four horns if you let them. :) Quote
