Could anybody help me out with idea's on a composition for a short skydiving film, showcasing the worlds best skydivers. I have worked with skydivers and usually the music that is put to these clips is very cliche pop orientated. With discussions with the editor we where thinking of more of an orchestra type instrumentation, just finding myself stuck when trying to keep the piece upbeat, vibrant and enthralling without the dramatic feeling with certain instruments. Any Idea's.

Stick with woodwinds and thinner textures at higher pitches. Stay major or augmented, taking advantages of the more playful dissonances (i love that 7dim7 chord in the major, personally, and find it to be simultaneously tense and undramatic). Speed isn't a big deal, and layering some slower functions might help keep direction.

yeah that might work. A lighter (than mahler) dynamic might work for what they're doing, otherwise it could muddle things. All you can really get is general advice until you put some pen to paper.

There should be some good film music guides somewhere around the site too. Check out Marius or Andy1044's posts (and other people who sound knowledgable) -- if it's not the same mood/genre you're looking for the general points will apply.

good hunting.
