Hey,

I like very much Gato Barbieri's pieces, I love to play those in my Tenor, specially Europa, but now I will be playing much of this, I have no idea where can I find scores of these pieces, so I'm creating my own scores by ear, because when I play I suddenly can't recall all the details so I must have a score to study.

Wasn't problematic to write "Europa" but right now I'm writing or attempting to write "Mystica" and wooops, this guy plays totally out of the beat, (and still sounds amazing :horrified: ) how this kind of music suppose to be written ? do they ever usa a score ? there is a score but they almost ignore it ?

Listen here:

Now my poor ugly confusing score, but that's the closest to what Gato is playing...

How is the correct way to notate this ? I come from Classical music and these are not even syncopes :forlorn:

is incomplete.... only to 3:27... but I absolutely love this, I will invent a new notation is there's no other way :P (I've seen Fakebooks, well, this is not like that either)

Yes, a leadsheet at the very least would be written.

It would be notated much simpler, and Gato is embellishing / interpreting as every player would/should.

There's some push and pull in his phrasing, so you can't notate it literally.....

Ok, Thanks Robin, if there is indications I could use like "Rubato" or something, I'd like to know but the ones I know I don't think are used there...

I think I finished this "Mystica" now I'm gonna print it and play it.

If there's someone else would like to use his ear training on writing these pieces, well... there are many more to do :D I will share my scores anyway, as you can see Gato doesn't play terribly difficult stuff, just amazing.

EDIT:

ups, there's a mistake, m.57 shouldn't exist

You wouldn't use Rubato (or necessarily any instruction), because it's in time - he's just phrasing it with a lot of push/pull... As you listen to & play more jazz-type musics, you'll start to understand better....

It must be written. It's out there!

You know, once in a blue moon I like to listen to a little smooth jazz...... it's kinda nice! (! THIS MUST BE SHOCKING)

The notation looks fine to me... I mean, I don't see a lot of errors. Not that I wuold know how to notate smooth jazz, but from the standpoint of reading, looks fine.

Yes it must be written, but not downloadable, and if you find something to buy, must be like those Diana Krall books, that never comes with what Diana really plays, looks like this is the only way, and is kinda working well so far, wanna help ? :D write this one, not too hard...
