normanlevene Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 Is there a midi drum machine / hardware sound module that has all the main functionality of the Alesis SR18 in that it lets you trigger intros, fills, endings alternative beats on the fly. Possibly triggered by a foot pedal. Also allows you to import midi files of rhythms created externally on a DAW like Cubase or Logic. I'd rather program rhythms externally of most drum machines as you have more control and it's generally easier and faster. Most importantly a drum machine that let's you use drumloops or mp3s instead of just its own generic 1980s sounds samples? Possibly with a built in bass sound. Preferably with a simplistic song / pattern selecting process for rapid groove changes. I need something like this for live performances and the Alesis is just too 1980s for me. I've been told, laptops aren't allowed otherwise I'd use one. Credit card at the ready, where do I spend? Anyone? Quote

Drum machines are good, but you aren't likely to find any that has a good modern sound, I can't even recall if there are any made after 1990. I'd go with something along the lines of Korg Pa800, it's a bit on the expensive side, but if you're into performing music, you wont regret buying it. Actually after a bit of googling, I found this: http://www.bossus.com/gear/productdetails.php?ProductId=473 I've read about it, it's pretty good, it has pedal connectors, effect inserts etc, but you can't import wave or mp3 in that. It's cheaper than the Korg arranger, but still a bit on the expensive side imo. Quote
