Hello all,

One of the works I presented here before were two of my Three preludes for Harp. The first prelude ends about half way a page. I would like to have the second prelude started on that same page, but no matter how much I search, I do not seem to be able to find the solution. I use Finale 2009 and would be gratefull is anybody is capable of explaining to me how I have to proceed. In general I want to have a lay-out which is equal to published music books: when a mouvement/work ends on a page, I want the second mouvement/work started on the same page, rather than having the remainder of the page left blank.

Thanks in advance for your help

Kind regards

I don't really have an answer for 2 movements on the same page are you talking about like title, half a page of music, then another title and it starts again completely unconnected to the first? if so, I'm stumped on that one, and would like to know an answer now too, but for Theme and Variations, you could try just copy paste, change the bar-line, and make a new expression that says like V.1, then do the same w/ variation 2.

@ treehugger, I indeed meant what you highlighted: a title, a piece of music, a new title with a piece of music; a third title with a piece of music and so on.

@ wayne-scales: thank you for the suggestion. I am going to try that tonight (have to run for school now).

@ Austenite: they way I do it is to put a double bar at the end of my variation and just continue writing. Above the new variation I write "variation 1", "variation 2" and so on.It is how I found it done in most variations by the great masters.

1. It needs to be on the same file, otherwise you cannot do it inside finale.

2. Just go to 'page tool' and move the systems accordingly... There's nothing to it.

3. Add the title, work, etc, on the proper place.

4. Make sure you change the measure numbers, cause you might end up on variation 2 with measure number of 69 and that would be ugly. You need to go to the measure tool and go to the menu and click on 'change measure number regions' (I think. I don't have Finale on this computer so I cannot check). Then choose the first one and make it stop at the last number of the 1st movement (otherwise when you add a new region you'll have two numbers on each measure). Then add a new region for the new part/movement.

@ Treehunter and Nicolas: both systems as presented by you work perfectly. The only issue is .... all the pieces have to be in the same key. When not, the key signatures anounce themselves at the end of the staff, after the double final bar line. What I really need is what you describe but without the key signatures being announced at the end.

Thanks for the suggestions already made; We are nearly there, just need to have you brilliant minds put somewhat further on this matter.

Kind regards

these setting can be defines with the measure tool.

then doubleclick the little square on the right of the measure. (ie the last bar of the last line of the prev movement). there you can tell finale to hide key and measure signatures.
