Pickles Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 Wrote this duet thingy. Originally had it for solo cello, but showed it to some cellists and they were like, :horrified: I'm bad about working within instrument's limitations. I split it up into violin and cello. Will that work? Edit: It's 70 bpm. Duet-midi.pdf PDF Duet-midi Quote
SYS65 Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 how fast it this ? I think is doable for a really pro one, I don't play cello I'm just trying to imagine this one solo cello.... in 80-100BMP could be but I bet is just the type of piece you don't wanna play as cellist. maybe this can help to you, just keep in mind the cello fingerboard and common sense on how one would use the fingers to play that. HeckelphoneNYC Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 It's playable, but kinda akward in some spots (like a 2 octave jump!) I think you can give a few of the lower notes to cello...It's silly for them to go "boom............rest rest rest boom......." etc. It's going to work, but it takes good rhythm and some skill...should be okay though. composerorganist Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 Second the cello part - he or she will be bored to tears. Also low C's at 16th at a metronome =70 will not speak that quickly. The tone's onset takes a tiny bit longer with the cello's low string. What would be nice is pizz for those low notes and then an arco section with more notes given to the cello in its middle range. You can also get a few those leaps easier in the violin if you employ a harmonic - but you have to know your fingering for harmonics. Quote
cjplumblossom Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 Good news. The violin part is absolutely playable (I tried it). Bar 27- Gee, that high G there is just awkward and a little tricky. But still should be doable though with 8 hours practice of that spot everyday(If the pinky finger is accurate on that high G) If you would like some fingerings for the violin's part, I could help you. I'm sure the numbers will all look awesome on that score. And yes, the cello part seems dull. It is even worse than repeating the same 8 notes 54 times in Pachelbel's canon. Instead of only allowing it to be the "boom" accompaniment, I suggest you distribute some sequences of the violin to the cello to spice things up. -------- Lastly, just a matter of notation- for the violin please have the stems up where they should be up. Thanks. (When I looked at the very first bar I went O_O) All the best! Quote
Pickles Posted March 7, 2012 Author Posted March 7, 2012 Plumblossom, thanks, could you make a recording of you playing it? I know it wouldn't be perfect but I'm dying to hear it played on a real instrument :) Edit: actually let me figure out if it's possible to do the high G in 27 as a harmonic first. Quote
Pickles Posted March 8, 2012 Author Posted March 8, 2012 Okay fixed stem direction. I think you might be able to play the high G in 27 as an artificial harmonic by playing the lowest G on the D string then lightly pressing where you'd play the C above it on the same string, if that sounds any easier. cjplumblossom Posted March 8, 2012 Posted March 8, 2012 Lol okay I'll look at that if I have time. Quote
cjplumblossom Posted March 10, 2012 Posted March 10, 2012 Hey Pickles! The tempo is just 70BPM?! WOW okay. The artificial G at m.27 is even more difficult than the previous high G. More preparation is needed (have to place first finger on the lower G then pinky-touch the string lightly) Forget it, I'll use the high G one. Will record soon. School holidays just started! I'll post the quality of my recording first soon. Quote

Pickles Posted March 10, 2012 Author Posted March 10, 2012 So cool! Thanks for playing it! I'm so happy to FINALLY hear it =D =D =D =D =D What part is it? Sounds so different on a real instrument I don't recognize it! -_- You play it very well though! I started out making trance music when I was 13 or so. 25 now. Just now starting to learn how to write for REAL instruments, which I'm finding out is a whole different enchilada. Anyway, I didn't intend to make this piece difficult, but it's actually a serialist piece and they tend to work out that way. Quote
cjplumblossom Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAA LOL silly hahaha that's just to let your hear how my garageband's recording quality is..LOLOLOL. Pickles Posted March 11, 2012 Author Posted March 11, 2012 :P Yeah...what can I say.... Anyway, muchas gracias, otra vez. Quote
prestidigilicious Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 Pretty much what has been said here. There are a couple of akward spots, but nothing horrifying (besides the poor cellist.) I'd show it to a violinist friend in person. Quote
