Connor_Helms Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 I've to object to one of the guidelines. Almost no western composers have good enough orchestration skills compared to Asians writing for say, Pro Musica Nipponia, Aura-J, Orchestra Asia, CCNA, Hsin-Music Orchestra, the CMSNA orchestra, or the ASEAN-Korea orchestra when it comes to really using the instruments....the idea of non-fusion and using an instrument precisely FOR it's weaknesses. So I take it someone throwing in very high and shrill oboe with a very high and shrill piccolo with a low violin will be downvoted?

jrcramer Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 i dont get it anymore. I completely missed the first melody. that is, suddenly I notice a discussion, while there is no score to be found. then, anoliel gives a melody, a 2nd, whch is dismissed as well. Edit: now I see Anionel uploaded the first one you. But I cant open it. then to think that the OP said the melody would be given the 5th of his month. I am lost here... A suggestion to be made. since the OP states that the rhythm can be altered ad libitum, only give an order of pitches, no rhythm. Giving a rhythm but say you can change it limiting creativity
Kvothe Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 I could really use help here on fixing the error with this broken file....help me!
Austenite Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 I'm settling on with the first melody. And no, I don't feel hampered at all. Let's just make it work in our own way...
Kvothe Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 Since I created this, and am I judge, (I know somone will dissapprove of this action): how many are in favor of just using the second new melody?

This wasn't supposed to have started yet, and it's already quite messy =) I second Jaap's idea on giving the order of pitches, for us to do whatever with.
Tokkemon Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 Neither. Its not a matter of it being simple or not, its a matter of they suck. 1
Joshua Harton Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 I am in favor of the first, having started, but I can do whichever. :D
Morivou Posted June 4, 2012 Author Posted June 4, 2012 WAIIIIITTTTT. Stop. Everybody. The competition HASN'T started yet. Relax. I am working with Aniolel on making a better melody for the competition. So PLEASE, STOP WRITING (since it starts in two days ANYWAY). Relax. You'll have an acceptable melody for when the competition STARTS. 4
Morivou Posted June 4, 2012 Author Posted June 4, 2012 Neither. Its not a matter of it being simple or not, its a matter of they suck. Tokke. If you aren't going to be civil or encouraging to an amateur composer, I suggest you leave my forum. 2
Morivou Posted June 4, 2012 Author Posted June 4, 2012 It's my forum. My job to make sure things are peaceful and in control. This is the biggest competition we've had since January's, so while it's fun to have quite a few accomplished composers in the competitions, the usual group is more interested in the education aspect of the competitions rather than the competitiveness. We aren't used to people being so demanding around here. hahah. 1
Kvothe Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 Thanks for the support. Yes, the competition does commence in two days time. No need to write now. I was throwing themes at you guys to see what you think of theme....hehhe. I been busy with a varible work schedule and such. Monday I will try to have a cool melody for you. I told morivio just to write a back one too.
Morivou Posted June 4, 2012 Author Posted June 4, 2012 I will also have a Back Up melody if I feel like Aniolel's won't work for what we have in mind.
Austenite Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 ... while it's fun to have quite a few accomplished composers in the competitions, the usual group is more interested in the education aspect of the competitions... ... which means, I don't have to fear the Brahmses and Mahlers signing in. On the contrary, I could actually learn quite a bit by attempting a work worthy of standing alongside theirs.
TJS Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 Perhaps you could consider pulling a melody from a pre-existing piece by, say, a lesser-known Romantic. There are many to choose from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Romantic-era_composers (I presume you know about the IMSLP website.)
jsands Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 It's going to be so much fun rewriting my romantic piece with a brand new melody because Tokke and the others couldn't take it. Lots of fun... Ah well, at least it gives me some more time to research/listen to romantic-style pieces.
