treehugger1995 Posted June 12, 2012 Posted June 12, 2012 Which one should I get? I'm leaning towards East West because it appears to have more, but I want your opinions. What I'm looking for is mostly a wide range of instruments, and THEN sound quality. Meaning I'd rather have one that has a good flute sound, but has flute, alto flute, contrabass flute, and subcontrabass flute than an AMAZING flute without any of the other ones. I also really really really want some damn good percussion, especially toms and every cymbal you can think of, as well as some of the more exotic percussion. What are your thoughts? thanks! Quote
Marius Posted June 12, 2012 Posted June 12, 2012 What's your budget, how powerful is your computer, and how skilled are you at sequencing work? Quote
treehugger1995 Posted June 13, 2012 Author Posted June 13, 2012 well, I have 500 dollars right now and will raise another thousand this summer to spend. I don't think I'll want to spend more than that, my computer likes to trol me a lot but I think it can handle a lot (either way, I'm also raising up for a mac pro) and I don't have any sequencing skills right now, but that is a skill I really want to learn and get good at. does that help? Marius Posted June 13, 2012 Posted June 13, 2012 Then the answer is EWQLSO. Go for the Gold version. If you're going to start working with these kinds of professional tools, do yourself a favour and don't do it in a notation program like Finale. It's not designed for it. It's designed for making engravings. Using something like EWQLSO in Finale is essentially using it at less than half its potential power. Producing respectable audio renderings is the realm of the Digital Audio Workstation (or DAW) software packages like Cubase, Logic, Reaper, etc. Reaper is cross-platform, extremely powerful, versatile, and dirt cheap. It's a great one to learn. And there is a LOT of learning involved because sequencing and mixing and mastering are all distinct skills that have nothing to do with music writing skills. Don't be daunted, but be prepared for a steep learning curve. Nothing in this industry is plug-and-play. 2 Quote
