orchdork02 Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 Isn't democracy beautiful? I just submitted my votes 1
luderart Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 Who chose/nominated the works/members to be voted for in each category? And what were the criteria used?
Austenite Posted December 24, 2012 Posted December 24, 2012 Who chose/nominated the works/members to be voted for in each category? And what were the criteria used? This thread: http://www.youngcomposers.com/t32608/official-nominations-yc-awards-2012/ In short, any YC member could have sent his nominations, according to his/her own criteria about what pieces/members deserved a particular award. Thus, members were free to nominate any work in any style, as long as they deemed it as deserving the prize. Self-nominating was forbidden, though (as is self-voting now). The nomination stage ended on Dec. 15th. The nominated works/members were only revealed at the beginning of the voting stage (which will be over on Dec. 31st at midnight). So you still have plenty of time to listen to the nominated works and vote for your favorites. Good luck! 1
SYS65 Posted December 24, 2012 Posted December 24, 2012 can we know how many people has voted ? this might need more advertising.
Morivou Posted December 24, 2012 Author Posted December 24, 2012 To give some point of reference, this is more than the number of people who nominated works.
Austenite Posted December 24, 2012 Posted December 24, 2012 I have the feeling that this year's voting method is somewhat cumbersome :p . Nevertheless, I hope that the PMs will eventually keep pouring in (I would expect at least the staff, the nominees and most of the generally active members to cast their votes). Also, although I'm glad we have plenty of options in terms of works and styles, I'm tending to believe there should have been some intermediate stage where the options could have been somewhat narrowed down, since there are relatively few members willing to listen to 30-40 nominated works before making an informed choice (I had the advantage of having examined a lot of these long beforehand, due to my role as a reviewer). There's plenty of time left, though. As SYS65 stated, this could be more prominently advertised.
Morivou Posted December 24, 2012 Author Posted December 24, 2012 I have no way to advertise this more. Please PM for suggestions. I'm sorry the method was weird. I don't like Polls... I like counting. :P hahah
Menelik Posted December 24, 2012 Posted December 24, 2012 What about placing a temporary banner at the home page, perhaps above the troll-advertising Shoutbox ;) ? That should surely bring more votes in than having this topic at the very bottom of it.
Austenite Posted December 24, 2012 Posted December 24, 2012 I like counting. :P hahah Let's hope you won't miscount this time :p (remember June Monthly Competition!)...
Morivou Posted December 24, 2012 Author Posted December 24, 2012 SHUT 'CHO MOUTH! lol. I have yet to find an admin who is active 100% of the time. If anybody wants to petition to get me admin powers, I'm up for it. :P But, until that day comes, we are at the mercy of admins who check the page once a week because they have this weird thing called "lives" hahahah. But seriously... I know Marius checks in a lot. But, I never see Chopin and Jason ADMITTED he was inactive. *le sigh*. EDIT: this is relevant because mods don't have very much control. ESPECIALLY when it comes to editing the site, which is what Menelik suggested.
Austenite Posted December 25, 2012 Posted December 25, 2012 Hmm... still no banner nor additional advertising  ... Have we gotten any additional votes at least?
orchdork02 Posted December 25, 2012 Posted December 25, 2012 With great power comes great responsibility  1
Morivou Posted December 25, 2012 Author Posted December 25, 2012 Hmm... still no banner nor additional advertising  ... Have we gotten any additional votes at least? I said I can't do any of that... I've relayed the message to the higher ups. With no response. :P
Marius Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 In fact, not even I can put up a banner ad — but I can put up a shoutbox notice, which might work better anyway! 1
Austenite Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 In fact, not even I can put up a banner ad — but I can put up a shoutbox notice, which might work better anyway! *claps*
Sojar Voglar Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 Have there been any new votes recently?
Morivou Posted December 28, 2012 Author Posted December 28, 2012 I got three more votes this morning. :) 1
