Sojar Voglar Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 To prevent these prize winning composers and their works to be forgotten I think a directory of winning pieces should be opened or all winning works become "major works" so people will hear them more frequently. What do you think? 3 Quote
Brackenbury Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 ^^sore drop-out. I like Sojar Voglar's proposal. I don't know how does a work get into the "Major Works" file, but if there are different criteria, we could as well just have another file for "YC Members' Choices". 1 Quote

What do you think? I disagree. The major works section should not work by public opinion. Although I agree that the changes are quite good that voted works will get into MW (My faith in democracy hold the collective of voters in some esteem, hoping that it will balance out the undeserving works) But it should not be automated. The idea of 'YC Members' Choices' is already in place using the rating system; search by popularity (downloads/opens), and the radio fulfills the same purpose. There is enough vox populi... 1 Quote

jrcramer Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 The radio does not fullfil the purpose since the youtube video uploads are not produced on radio. But the rating system still applies, and the search engine still works. Still enough vox populi for your works :) and rightly so. My only point is that winners should not be excluded from the existing MW-guidelines Quote
treehugger1995 Posted January 17, 2013 Posted January 17, 2013 I hate college, It made me completely forget about these awards, oh well. It was a huge honor to be nominated for my Viola Concerto, I litterally went "aww" out loud when I read it on the nominated list. Congrats to Austenite and Sojar Voglar, you both deserve it, your talent and support for this community absolutely amazes me, you both are fantastic composers and one day, when I become a band director and I'm talking to my students while rehearsing your pieces, i'll be like "yeah, I knew Sojar Voglar and Austenite, yeah, be amazed" and they'll all look at me as if I said I met Obama and Clinton. Great job, I look forward to see what you two will contribute this year! And congrats to everyone else as well XD congrats to everyone in this forum, congrats to the whole world because why not! 2 Quote
Sojar Voglar Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 Crt and Bob are destroying America? Hey, Threehugger95 compared us with Obama and Clinton, not Bush! 1 Quote
TJS Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 Hey, Threehugger95 compared us with Obama and Clinton, not Bush! That's not a huge improvement really. It's kind of like comparing turds. [Not you and Austenite.] 2 Quote

TJS Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 So: being an American president automaticaly makes you a turd? ;) Not quite. But almost everyone ascending to a position like that (including equivalent positions in other countries) usually gets there by being the worst kind of person. Perhaps there are a few, a very few, exceptions. Quote
Austenite Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 ... as if I said I met Obama and Clinton. Erm... Personally I'd like better Mr. Lincoln - although that might mean having a bullet into your head fired by an embittered artist ;) . 1 Quote
treehugger1995 Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 nah, you're not quite to Lincoln yet, that would be if I knew John Adams or Jen. Higdon 2 Quote
Sojar Voglar Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 With Morivou out of the picture, what will the prizes be? My suggestion remains the same: put all winning works on a special directory or at "Major works". 1 Quote
Morivou Posted January 23, 2013 Author Posted January 23, 2013 Psh. Out of the picture my donkey. I'm just not around. Didn't say I wasn't watching. I never decided on prizes... I guess that would be a worthy move. Unfortunately, I can't do that anymore. :P Contact one of the staff. Quote
