ChristianPerrotta Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 This is a well known idea: make a piece of music for piano solo, in which you may use each key of the keyboard only once, making then the possibility of 88 notes. You MUST use all of them, and only once. I've seen a piece composed like that by a professor here in my city. Deadline: January 31st. Let's pick a winner by voting^^ Quote
ChristianPerrotta Posted January 16, 2013 Author Posted January 16, 2013 Great, Thatguy v2.0!!! Let's also hope for more composers^^ Quote
TJS Posted January 17, 2013 Posted January 17, 2013 http://www.youngcomposers.com/music/4041/the-cluster-sonata-88-key-challengebad-joke/ Now includes new movements! Wow. (You don't actually have to consider that part of the competition.) But if anyone can explain to me why my playback is not playing the crescendo in the left hand in the third movement, I would be appreciative. Quote
TJS Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 Try disabling "share dynamics between staves" under performance. Could also be that "live playback" is on and however you input that cresc on your keyboard beforehand is overriding the score. Could also be that the dynamic range needs tweaking in the dictionary. Thanks, I'll take a look at it later. Quote
p7rv Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 http://tedxtalks.ted.com/video/TEDxMIAMI-Scott-Rickard-The-Wor Piece could use some dynamics, but is definitely far from "the world's ugliest". 1 Quote
TJS Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 Yeah, there are lots of other pieces I've heard that I would pick as uglier than that, which suggests his definition of "ugly" is just that--his definition. Quote

Austenite Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 Piece could use some dynamics, but is definitely far from "the world's ugliest". So someone is actually trying to write "ugly" music - and actually FAILS! Quote
