Guest YNYC Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 The Young New Yorkers’ Chorus invites all composers under the age of 35 to apply for our Tenth Annual Competition for Young Composers. Entrants may live anywhere; a small travel stipend is available for non-New York composers to workshop their pieces prior to the performance and attend the premiere. Applicants should submit a sample of their work for consideration by May 1, 2013. Samples must be compositions written for choir alone or choir with an accompanying instrument. Three finalists will be selected by our panel of judges and will be notified by July 1, 2013. Each finalist will be commissioned to compose an original work that addresses the theme of “Heroes.” The piece should be for a cappella mixed choir and will be premiered by the Young New Yorkers’ Chorus in our June 2014 concert, which will feature music for and about heroes. Prizes based on the commissioned works will be announced at the premiere concert. The first place winner will receive the $1,000 Nathan Davis Prize in Composition. The other two finalists will receive $500 each. Before applying, please review our submission guidelines. Applications will be accepted on our website until the competition deadline of May 1, 2013. Please visit www.ynyc.org/composers-competition for more information. Quote
